Mix 92.3

Whew! Man I haven't been on here in a while. Lemme take a stab at this thread! ;D

As far as I can tell, it hasn't changed at all. They pulled the jingles McQueen invested in for the station 'cause they were too A/C or too slow. I always thought he should'a invested in jingles from N2Effect or ReelWorld. Those have more punch, more branding power, and have more energy.

Every time I put it on, it's the same 10 burned out 80's songs (Pat Benatar, Go-Go's, Toni Basil, Joan Jett, etc.), mixed with 90's songs just from the years 1996-1999, then a dozen or two from 2000-today.

Here's my opinion of what could be done to try and turn up the energy over there and maybe reinvent themselves. BTW, the MIX moniker is fine IMO, the format itself just needs a little tweeking.
1). Ditch the burned out stuff for right now. It's good music, but it's burned out right now. Tap into some other 80's hits.
2). Tap into some more 90's hits.
3). If the company has the funds for the PD to use, invest in a good, high-energy jingle package with good branding power.
4). Have an engineer make some processing adjustments. To me, it sounds too muddy. Brighten the on-air sound.
5). Try to mimmick the sound and energy of the old Mix 104.1 (circa late 90's), but with today's sound and attitude. There is no match up against heritage B-97, but they could earn some more listeners with a new sound. Heck, they even share the same tower!

I may have written about this before and ranted the same thing, and if I did I apologize for repeating myself. It just seems like a good idea to me. ;)

"If it ain't broke" you have got to be kidding. The rock/ Louisiana's Rock and Classic rock formats on WCKW 92.3 was their most popular, most profitable and highest rated formats. Then Citadel decided to fix an unbroken station to the point. New format, same tired songs. Then a case of ultimate stupidity DIVA. So if that don't give you a clue then nothing will.

Frequentmodulator is correct on that one, the first flip from Rock to A/C came in after Sid had passed on but I think a year or so before selling out to Citadel.

I know after Sid passed, the playlist changed at Rock 92.3 before changing up in 1999 to the "Point"

However my thing is, all these formats tried on this station, all these tweaks and never above a 2.5 in 10 years?

RFLA

I gotta agree with RFLA on that one. The Levet's were responsible for the demise of Louisiana's Rock 92.3.

I can remember when Pal Al, Wierd Wayne, etc. were over there "Rockin' The River & Shakin' The Lake!" ;) That processing was 'b*lls to the wall' loud and I liked it. ;D Man I miss those days. And you know something, I never really paid close attention to that station till I moved up to Thibodaux to attend school at Nicholls State. 92.3 and 104.1 were the only two stations, besides Nicholls' station 91.5 The Edge (KNSU-FM) and Houma/Thibodaux, that came in on portables in the dorms. Everything else was washout.

However my thing is, all these formats tried on this station, all these tweaks and never above a 2.5 in 10 years?

Like I said, as far as the Mix format goes, it can work better if they lean more towards or morph into a CHR station. I know there'd be no comp against the B or FMF, but it would earn them a few extra numbers. If 104.1 did CHR 10 years ago today and had success with it (again, keep in mind they share the tower), I think 92.3 can too. I also realize Mix 104.1 was successful because E-Z Communications had flipped B-97 to hot talk at that time and it was a disaster.

It just has to be done like Mix was done in the days of the 90's when Jammer, Candy Clutch, etc. were there. The fun Mix 104.1 created back then has to be recreated on Mix 92.3 now. It's what south Louisiana would probably expect from a station named "MIX." There has to be some kind of music balance put into place and energetic jocks on the air that are exciting to listen to. If they sound like they're having fun, then chances are they really are and that could help attract listeners.

But ultimately, south Louisiana is too used to their rock on 92.3 and I'd be more than happy for it to return there! But if it did, I guarantee it wouldn't be the way it used to be. No Bill St. James, no "rock blocks," etc. It'll be the same ol, same ol.

I rechecked the dates and RFLA and Freq-mod you are correct. I got the dates wrong so I apologise for the incorrect data, but the DIVA format did leave a sour note for me. Yes I would like to see rock to return on 92.3, but I have to admit Mix is not a bad change. Jeremy is correct though it can be tweaked better.
Jeremy I am suprised you couldn't get KXOR 106.3 in the dorms either.

Yeah cause Joe Costello (Who owned KXOR on top of WRNO and apparently a few other stations such as KKAY-AM), had this station as a rock station for many years aimed at the college kids in the dorms, then moved after the sell of WRNO to a country format before Guaranty flipped it in 1997 or so after buying it back to rock

Update:

On the way home I listened for 45 minutes. In that time I heard no new music. None! Sounds more like 80s 90s classic hits. Even heard a ghost of 92.3's past! Cant tell you what it was because they are no longer tracked on yes.com hmmmmmm....????

Jeremy

Was a song that Rock 92.3 played in 95. But I dont know the name of it. NOT top 40!

RFLA its not working. The song tracker isnt tracking now. The song was a rock song that I havent heard in 13 years! Not STP/ AIC or Sgdn!

OOps, looks like yes hasn't been logging the songs on 92.3 since Monday in the AM

Give us hints as Hootie and the Blowfish, Counting Crows , and a few others were on Rock 92.3 then and would be played on there now

Think thats it...1pm hour today sounded diffrent from 11 tonight. Like it was 2 diffrent stations. But Hanzo was on VTing. Listening now only top 40 I have heard is womanizer.
