Mix 929 Christmas

jason99 said:
So someone posted earlier that Mix 929 is going All Christmas November 1st. Is this really true??

I don't know Jason, I haven't heard anything about it. But I say this, just in my opinion that would be a silly move for them. Christmas Music should start on the day after Thanksgiving, or what the retailers call "Black Friday, The Big Shopping Day". I think it would hurt Mix in the book if they did that. Just because Walmart puts out their Christmas items out before Thanksgiving, doesn't mean to start all Christmas Music then.

Of course, my personal feelings about Christmas are that we are so busy in gift giving; we Americans have forgotten what the holiday really stands for.

starting the Christmas season around labor day ala Walmart as well as Cracker Barrel is a real turnoff for me..Cracker Barrel had Halloween and Christmas items out on Labor day. ought to be a law ..no mention of Christmas until the Monday after Thanksgiving..HEY..just noticed the Avatar faces are back..when did that happen? my page just showed the written discription for several months..Mongo like AVATARS ;D

Welcome to "Corporate America", the quicker we can get it in stock and on the shelves, the sooner the consumer will get into the spirit of a holiday that is months away, and the consumer buys it, thinking they are getting a deal! Dead Wrong. I agree with the statement about Walmart and Cracker Barrel. Cracker Barrel lights up the fireplace way too quick in the fall, and it is hot in that restaurant for this 5' 10" fat man, me! At 235 lbs., and my weight should be around 175-180, I need an exercise bike! I feel like stuff, fat, depressed cow coming out of Cracker Barrel.

Radio is the same way; even the small stations like mine rely on Corporate America for help (i.e. Citadel Media). Local automation is too much work, when there are other chores to do around the station. I moved my production room to my house so I can do the program logs, import spots etc. I use "gotomypc.com" to log in to the automation system to move the produced spot from my home pc to the on air pc. Spot talent is done "out of house" for different voices, so I won't have to voice the spots. I get many emails from people all over the county that want to do production for your station at low, low , prices. Take a look at spotstogo.com. You send them the copy, and the turnaround is 24-48 hours, with the spot emailed back to you, produced. Most of the talent is people who Corporate America has canned.

Not much for egg nog....but....is the boiled custerd on the shelves yet?

I too don't like the put Christmas stuff out before Labor Day....but they've been doing it for a number of years now. If it didn't make money I doubt they'd continue the tradition.
Just my humble opinion.

no boiled custard..checked today..why eggnog and not the custard ?? thought they went together like rock 'n roll..guess we wait for the thanksgiving supply.as a side note..i am one for all the tradition that Christmas allows..but why not do Thanksgiving on a Friday..3 day weekend..i realize those with normal jobs will take off Friday as well as the following Monday..but for the rest of us "oddballs" with unusual vocations..making that change would seem a no brainer...wait the lightbulb just went off..if Thanksgiving were on a Friday...then no massive "BLACK FRIDAY" SALES...never mind.... ::)

Buddy,
I agree! But maybe I haven't been paying attention to the stores (Walmart) much, but I have seen some TV Spots running just right before Labor Day promoting Christmas. Today's Corporate is just out for our hard earn money, and if they think they can get it, they will take it no matter what time of the year it is.

The Macy's TV Spot that has been running on the TV Networks is cute, Bob Hope, Johnny Carson, etc.

Rest assured it'll go Christmas the same way it's gone Christmas. You still have a couple of weeks to take down the Halloween
decorations.

Shoot, Purity has jumped on board as well. Egg Nog out in time for Halloween?

I don't know if Purity is doing this, but Turner Dairies in the Memphis area is selling egg nog with a Halloween label on it. I also didn't see any boiled custard yet.

Concerning decorations, I work at Lowe's in Jackson part time and we've had them up since this time last month. I'll almost always see a house somewhere with their Christmas lights up within the first week of November. Usually it's someone who kept them up all year and all they have to do is flip the switch. (Wasn't that one of Jeff Foxworthy's signs that you might be a redneck?) ::)

Usually it's someone who kept them up all year oh i can take you to places on my daily route that leave Christmas decorations up all year and turned on as well..one house has halloween stuff out, pumpkins, witches, etc..right next to the lit Christmas tree on the front porch..and yes to lump them together as redneck...well ..you make the call.. :D lol

Delta,

Somebody just had to get on here and bring up the Holidays! Now, I'm getting hungry, and 17 years ago when this station went on, you recall I only weigh 150 lbs. Now at 230 lbs, this is all I need, more FOOD! Leslie waits and comments after the holidays on how much weight I've gained. Oh well, I guess I can wait until the New Year rolls in. I keep telling myself, need to go to the civic center, but I can't get away from the TV!!! Especially Monday Nights.

Oh Yea, at one time, there was one house on Blythe Street, down from the street from the station, that did keep up the Christmas Lights all year long. I guess they have moved. Bobby Reed, Construction Company Owner, is buying up these old houses on Blythe Street and tearing them down. Maybe the "crack house" will now go away!

I sold Jim Oldham some of my property to expand his car lot next door. On 1560, ground radials don't have to be as long as they did when the old tower was on 1130. When Dad and I bought the new self supporting tower, we only had to have 150', compaired to the old tower was all most 200'.

I may be the guilty party. I posted that as a tongue-in-cheek "prediction." I did hear an ad this morning from (soemthing) (something) Marketplace with "Joy to the World" playing in the background.

Do you really put up halloween decorations. Guess I could hang a poster picture of an ex and that'd serve the same purpose ::)

D Dean....shame on you. But it's made for :D comments.

It was definitely one of Gretchen Wilson's signs of being a "redneck woman."

Oh boy, somebody had to bring up Purity! I want a box of Nutty Buddies! I could eat the entire box, while I'm watching CSI-Miami! I'm already at 230 pounds, I need to stop this stuff!

Okay, let's kill two birds with one stone here:

Let's flip 106.7 to all Christmas all the time! No one ever listens to them, so it won't really be a loss for any of us! And it might even work for them, if everyone else maintains their normal programming, and does not go "all Christmas"! ;D

i think 106.7 might get some listenership #'s, albeit low, cause of da frequency/power isssues.
The music is decent for the format, although I would expect that to change as they grasp for
straws. The real station that should go all Christmas is WRQQ. But, it might be alright to throw
in Maggie May as a new cut or something. Just call it 97.1 The Christmas Joke....

Okay, well, we're still keeping it in the CumuClueless family! ;D

Oh great. It is that time of year again when we get to hear "Tender Tennessee Christmas" by Amy Grant. Last July I was counting the days when radio stations would bring that one back for the Holidays. ;)
