Mix 94.1 Afternoons

Is Tom Mitchell out at MIX? I noticed he wasn't on the air Monday and now I see he's no longer on their website.

Close friends of mine here in Las Vegas at Mix 94.1 have confirmed Tom Mitchell has been let go. No official word as to what and why Tom was let go.

What I hear is Tom and his PD Justin Chase have been seeing differently about how the afternoon show is to be played out. Tom had wished to bring some changes to the show by adding Beth (weekends/part time) to the air on his show back about 6-8 months ago. Justin under pressure believed to be from Mark of the Mark and Mercedes in the Morning Show, felt having a duo on afternoon drive would take away from M and M and pulled the duo apart. Weeks later Tom tried to introduce a new feature being the "The Live Drive at 5." Planned as a nonstop Alternative Mixed Music Hour with a local favorite club mixer. Justin, being the egomaniac that he is, immediately shot the idea down. Tom feeling having no control or creative interest in his own show executed only the basics leading to Justin and Tom entering a closed door meeting with GM Tom Humm and ending with Tom Mitchell leaving and so far not to return.

What I'm hearing from several account executives at Mix 94.1 is, Jason Rooney is now planned to be the afternoon drive host with Kade taking over nights and Mike Summers on overnights.

In other related news about the Vegas cluster of CBS RADIO, Jack FM will soon be jocked. After several recent research call-out's, Jack's success has been based on it's music yet listeners and those involved in the survey's admitted to listening to other stations for Traffic and morning entertainment. After the results of the surveys were published and an astonishing 98.7% of those surveyed say they would listen more if there was a morning and afternoon drive show. PD, Craig Powers took his research to corporate and requested allowance of mornings and maybe even an afternoon drive show. Craig has been talking close to consulting pals about a possible morning duo as they near the one year anniversary of Jack FM.

Here's a shocker! Paul Sands from midday's is on the hunt for a new gig. Mornings preferred. Paul was brought back to Vegas to host afternoons about 2 years ago. After a few months, they dropped him to midday's. Paul expressed his interest in replacing Tom once he heard he was no longer with Mix. Because Paul has no prior track record in any other market for afternoons yet had decent numbers the few months he was on afternoons at Mix 94.1, Justin turned Paul down.
Paul's contract is up this March and has been considering on howling the morning drive! Could he be off to the Coyote?

Bitter, table for one. Sounds like someone doesn't like Justin. The stories I've heard about Tom leaving MIX are in a completely different solar system. You couldn't be more wrong.

The JACK stuff? I think most programmers feel that they will have to go with somewhat of an airstaff at some point. How soon will depend on when their numbers start to slip.

Interesting story. Was he a good jock? Hope things work out for him?

Good steps by CBS and Craig. To ensure they long term success of Jack, jocks will have to be added. Jack may become even more successful with jocks, according to that listener survey.
