Mix 94.1 Canton & Nickelback

The other day I overheard Mix 94.1 while getting my hair cut; the station was playing Nickelback's "Rockstar", but something seemed amiss. Sure enough, the word "drugs" in the chorus was censored, as if it were a cuss word.

First of all, what is it about "drugs" that prompts a censor? Second of all, if it is to block objectionable content, maybe the station shouldn't play the song at all; in fact, "drugs come cheap" is much less offensive than "girls come easy" or other things mentioned in the song.

It is an edit that was serviced by the label. Although I do get a chuckle at edits like this because although a station plays an edit such as this, they air Maroon 5's "This Love" and "Makes Me Wonder" with the sexual references clearly intact.

Welcome to the world of "paranoid potential fine prevention". Since the fine for airing "indecent" material has gone from around 22k to around 325k, radio companies aren't taking any chances. I've recently heard edits for classic rock songs that, up until about 2 years ago, ran uncensored for over 15 years. So, apparently scores of Americans are now offended by songs that were once not offensive to them.
Makes you wonder..............

I am familiar with "This Love" but have no idea what "sexual references" it has? Please give us the FACT(s), man.

Next it'll be so bad you'll hear "I Want a New Drug" by Huey Lewis & "Love is the Drug" by Roxy Music

Just listen to the track. Two blatant ones. If you don't get 'em, then I'll post 'em!

Hey WHBC-FM: If you're going to play very conservative edits, which is understandable because of your demo, how about some consistency. The word "suck" (and not used in a sexual reference) in 'U + UR Hand' is isn't appropriate, but "ass" in 'Family Affair' is?? Oooook then. ::)

I know of 1 in the second verse kind of at the beginning ov the second verse and then again during the second half of the bridge. Is that what you were going for?

Please do... I am obivious.

"I tried my best to feed her appetite
Keep her coming every night
So hard to keep her satisfied"

"My pressure on your hips
Sinking my fingertips
Into every inch of you

Cause I know that's what you want me to do"

As if the video for this song wasn't a hint. I'd LMAO if the soft AC's "all of a sudden" started airing edits. :D

Well, this is one of those songs I "sing along with" and never actually knew all of the lyrics.

However, I still wouldn't consider that blatant. It could be justified that he wants to have her coming back to be with him regularly even though he finds her difficult to keep happy. And his fingertips might be hugging and caressing her. Or not. ;)

It's funny all these AOR's are playing the PG rated cuts but have completely forgot about the Eagles "Life In the Fast Lane"..."Been up & down this highway haven't seen a ***damn thing"
...and I particularily never liked playing/outro-ing "Bitch" by Meredith Brooks on a Sunday but have to. Same with "I Touch Myself"...Avril Lavigne's "Girlfriend" says "Hell yeah I'm the Mother F****N", and they didn't edit out the F or the N so it's obveous. Same w/ that Godaweful Alanis Morrisette "You Oughta Know"..."Are you thinkin of me when you F*** her". If they really wanna edit, cut out the word before the foul language so listeners don't catch the jist of the whole raunchy idea...just like "Adia"..."No one left to finger"...how about the words "Jack Off" in "A change would do you good?"...I could go on, but talking about those last 3 screeching anemic Canadian chicks gave me a headache. :D
