Mix 94.1 flips to Radio 94.1

Anyone remember WQSH in Louisville Kentucky ran by Karen Rite? It was a great station and really embraced the Modern AC format which is starting a slow nationwide comeback.

WQSH did really well in the core demos and money demos as well, which in the end is all that really matters.

I think WVMX will do fine, just give it some time.

I haven't listened to it, but here's what I predict:

Maybe a book or two with some increased numbers, the usual combination of new-format curiosity and appeal from certain songs showing up that radio has neglected.

Then, within a year, audience abandonment because (a) the playlist is too small and repetitive and (b) it's a CC station with the relentless clutter that that company still believes people will put up with, like it was 1996 and radio audiences had no other options.

I agree with that...it is going to try to be like the sound...but it'll have a bitter aftertaste of CC...which is not a good thing

Here's my prediction. 94.1 will hurt 94.9 just enough to kill it off within a year. Then 94.1 will flip country.

1360 will hurt 96.5 just enough to make it abandon sports talk, or talk all together. Then 1360 will flip back to The Source, brokered, or Spanish.

EBN will once again own rock, and Homer will own sports talk. Even WMOH will be out of the picture.

How long did The Power Pig last after Zrock fell? A few months?

I am in louisville and i loved wqsh she 93.1 till cc matthews had to screw it up flip frequecies from 93.1 to 98.9 and make it star 98.9 and then on dec 26 2000 a kiss affiliate thank god he is gone but i loved that station. What is the differnce between a hot ac and a modern ac?

I was told she 93.1 made very little money in louisville and thats why cc matthews killed it.

I like the sound 94.9 also decent commercial alt station you guys have.We have this god awful active with a litttle alt thrown in wlrs that hopefully as soon as main line takes over from radio one they will blow it up!!!

Good luck with you new station!!!

"Music hosts"?!?!?!

Haha, they're funny!

Hopefully they'll get rid of that all-Christmas nonsense that clutters the dial from about September to January of each year.

94.1 keeps trying to "reinvent itself", but it always sounds the same. "WINK" to plain old "94-1" to "MIX" to "RADIO"

RADIO 94-1 is a lame handle. It doesn't say anything about the station's music stance.

The night jock sounds like he belongs in some 100-200 market like Appleton, WI.

Do 25-39 year-old women really want to hear "Love Is The Drug" by Roxy Music? That seems to be a stretch.

I LOVE Roxy Music, and have always lamented the fact that Cincinnati radio never really found them. There is a ton of music that the talking heads in radion programming have decided women don't want to hear.

While I'll give you that while MOST of Michael Bolton (and all the rest of the "soft rock" fare) fans are women, there are plenty of us who would never choose to listen to it.

WQSH made money where it counted. It made demo money with Women 18-49, Women 25-54. However CC Matthews had been spending time building up WDJX and She was in his way. So once he had a chance to come over and change things, he blew it up. CC has been all over the place and in just about every radio station in Louisville.

I think 94.9 The Sound and Q102 are both fantastic stations. Its sad that Clear Channel has such beef with those two stations when Bonneville is known as such a stand up company. It truly is the difference between night and day. David and Goliath if you will, Bonneville - Clear Channel, the garden of good and evil.

With regards to WQSH, WQSH had some sort of showing for Winter'99 due to Outside
Marketing. However it never did not perform well 25-54 Women. As a matter of fact it beat WTFX
25-34 men, that is why Clear Channel chose to change the format. The station was too
male leaning. Which interesting enough Radio 94-1 sounds very male leaning. I don't see Radio 94-1 beating
Q102 25-54 Women, which is a money demo!

Hopefully this move will force The Sound into more of a true alt. ROCK position instead of the somewhat adult-skewing alt. rock sound they've got going on. The format of 94.1 is essentially Modern AC.

Apparently, CC decided they needed to stick their finger in Jim Bryant's eye. Again. This continues the long running feud between Bryant and CC. As far as making money is concerned, however...hmm, let's see...Q102 and WSWD combine for about a 7 share...WGRR and WRRM combine for about a 13.

Women get too many things formatted to them anyways! Does this mean no more American Top 20 on 94.1?
