Mix 95.9 Today's Best Music Without The Rap - Really

Noticed they play "Payphone" by Maroon 5 feat. Wiz Kalifa. With Wiz Kalifa's rap part in the song. I figured Mix would have played the version without Wiz Kalifa as most Hot ACs do. I guess slogan means nothing?

Regardless to what has happened here, I ask that you watch for a forthcoming trend...No Rap! Hip-Hip Rap...CRAP is merely a product of the industry. In the end result, it will be found formatically...what it is...Talentless Label Fodder. Slaving to the labels, and granting airplay to this horse manure has juvenize CHR, and sent its TSL into the toliet. I belongs on Churbans, and no where else. With that steady understanding both CHR, and Hot AC would garner more of a solid ratings book. It's not hard to understand....S.P.A.M............$#*+ passing as music!

Interesting....here in ATL Star 94 has started using that slogan. Many here feels it's borderline racism. I agree with Scooter (that's something I have never said before) that it is a product of the industry kind of like a rebound reaction. Racism is an interesting problem in different areas. Here in SC we use to have a station that called themselves The Black Station of (their location). No one really thought of it as racist but more as an id of who they were and what they offered. Yet if some one's id said The White Station of SC it would be racist or at least called racist. Maybe Star 94 is pushing it or maybe it's just their location and the people around them.

First of all, WOW with the generalizations.

"CRAP is merely a product of the industry" you say? You could say that about ANY genre of music on the airwaves. Auto-tuned divas, guitar-screeching and/or sex-crazed rock/metal, redneck-pandering kitchy lyric'ed country ... so let's stop pretending it's just (c)rap that has it's emptiness. There's a lot of quality rap/hip hop and artists in that genre. Because it doesn't interest you, you only notice the stuff that truly grinds on your nerves. Macklemore & Ryan Lewis have a TERRIFIC album out; spend some time with it. Oh, and the rapper in the group is white.

What WSTR in Atlanta is doing is dated; the average 35-44 female would hit the dance floor at any "girls night out" or wedding reception the SECOND the "Cupid Shuffle" (alarmingly - RAP!!!!) starts playing. They grew up jamming to MC Hammer and Coolio, and would have their pretty little dress shoes off and on that dance floor in less than five notes of the song hitting the speakers.

Some years ago, WPLJ NYC advertised it played No Rap and No Sleepy Elevator Music... But it played One Week by Barenaked Ladies. I guess rap isn't rap if it's done by white Canadians.

But how far back do we have to go for radio slogans that promise an idea, even if the programmers break that idea at will. I can remember when a NYC station promised it would play "Love Songs. Nothing but Love Songs." Yet it played Sailing by Christopher Cross, which was a song about, well, sailing.

Today, many Adult Hits stations, including the Jack stations, promise "We Play Everything." But plenty of music is omitted by these stations. They're 90% rock hits of the 80s, 90s and the 00s. And they throw in an occasional hit by an Urban artist or an occasional Country song that crossed over. Two out-of-format songs per hour allow them to claim We Play Everything.

Simon in Greensboro, NC is the exception to that rule. While they do play a lot of hot AC and various songs that never would have been identified as hot AC, they are the one station covering the entire market that play classic hits from the 70s. But unlike true classic hits stations, they don't just mix in the 80s. I think they even do some 60s.

Marv,...bring me my black hat, the cat of nine shares, and the jaws of thought mind spreader. I got to either beat some sense into a few pencilnecks or spread their narrow minds past the horizon of haloooooo
-sunations! RAP & Racisum! Emenim(M&M) is as white as I am, and his recorded crap is just as Awww-ful, as Jay-Z, Kayne,
Lil' Whine...and etc. It all sucks! It is all a product of the industry. This about quality, not physical appearance or race. However, we blame Usher for signing Bieber. We could have done without the devil's midget on TV all the time. The next time he wants to get at a member of the Papparatzi...body guards,...don't hold him back, let him go! The first time he gets a 5-pound camera lense between the eyes...Trust me on this...he won't repeat! Rap keeps quality black artists like Gary Clark, Jr, and Rapheal Saadig from airplay, and they have talent. There is a young black male on The Voice. He has an incredible range, and could win the whole thing. However, tell him this: As good as you are, and you might win, get a recording contract, with Live appearances......but on CHR radio, you might not get much airplay, due to Rap product...because you merely SING! Ron Roberts: Your knowledge of quality music would fit in a thimbal, along with the collective morals of my two X-wives, two peas, a door knob screw, and the heart of a Consultant! This is the GSP market. We don't give a Rat's ass what they do in Atlanta. There's nothing to learn there!
If today's CHR, and Hot AC formats want to increase both their Ratings, and Revenue, they have to flush the Hip-hop Rap crap out of the Slector!

I thought MIX 95.9 was in Charleston, not GSP? I'm going to let y'all have this topic as I already see where this is going. MIX 95.9 not playing "rap crap" won't last long anyways as I can assure you a new format will be in place soon. BTW, Apex brought back the station that plays "Rap Crap".....I wonder why?

To make money. The box. even on the weak stick can do enough money with clubs and booze and few concerts here and there and will make enough money! so now that they have proven they are not gonna flip Kickin 925 to the box, the rumors can start that 95.9 will be the box next..LOL you crack me up

LOL @ booze...I only post rumors that I believe are accurate and checking my track records they become facts!!!

Scooter, A. I worked in the Greenville market, so I do have a good bit of insight, and B. you don't know me to say WHAT kind of musical knowledge I have. Oh, and before you go questioning my morals, think twice, or do it in person. Keyboard muscles aren't sexy and I ain't impressed.

You don't like rap music; we get it. Move on. There's a reason you're out of the game, and trolling message boards to get your opinion out instead of putting your ideology into a playlist.

P.S., you misspelled thimble. Does your Apple II E not have spell-check?

Spellchek...is for those that care too much about what others think!
Whatever this Southern Keyboard applies to this screen soootz me.
My reputation is well known, so I don't have to prove anything. I am, truthfully, everything that I pretend to be. Truthfully, most can not say the same. Ron Roberts, you admitted, publicly, on this board, that you like Rap. Credibility shot! No one can defend you now! Besides, only a Mac user would know what an...Apple II E...is! I don't!

Supplemental: By the way, "The Morals" were those of my two X-wives,
not yours. You like Rap,...and you can't read either!

Enjoy the bleacher seats, Scooter. That's where minds like yours belong. Collecting dust, on the sidelines, with plenty of "nothing of substance" to say, except for your racially-tainted "rap sucks" generalizations.

I don't like or dislike rap; I like all kinds of music of various genres, and don't make sweeping statements of appeal or disdain for any of 'em. You make broad statements about "rap" killing CHR, and there's no real evidence of that.

Just more "Scooter blather." That's why most folks skip your posts, man. Bitter ol' sour grapes and going in broad sweeping generalizations about nothing of relevant substance.

Well,...Roberts,...here's the skinny: With those three little drively paragraphs, average text readers might begin to assume that you had some sense, but then again, therein resides the oaf. 95% of those that read here Ain't Average! Those reading here are current or former Broadcasters, and/or members of The Think Tank. Regardless to who, I doubt if you're gonna find anyone that sez Rap...is not...what Poisoned CHR. I worked at one CHR that had a 17-share...a license to print money. Today, the fragmented mess, labeled CHR, has single digits, and maybe two skinny full-time paychecks. No backpeddlin' for you. We all read your post...You like Rap. Enjoy you acute Oaffing! "Bleacher Seats"? No, it's a large recliner, a stein of New Castle, and watchin' THE VOICE, surrounded by my completely paid-for house, and debt free lifestyle. Note this...not a one of the contestants on THE VOICE TV show is a Rappper. Everyone of them talented singers. Hmmmm? Currently, Roberts, your credibility in the ICU. I'd change the subject to somethin' a little more suitable for yourself,...such as old Mac units. I'll leave you, and your Oaffing self with this: I had 34+ years in both Radio & TV. I did it all, and still have a Rock Solid Reputation.
I was never fired from any of those jobs. Each time, leaving by my own choice. Can you say the same?...I didn't think so!

Come on guys. just agree to disagree. No need to take cheap shots at each other. Scooter, you don't like rap. Ron, you don't care either way. The original discussion was about Mix using a slogan that seems out of date considering rap is not ruling CHR the way it USED to. A healthy discussion is great but it's cringeworthy seeing you guys hitting below the belt. Your opinions are respected, at least by me as a radio fan.

Scooter, when you worked in radio at a CHR that drew a 17 share, I'm guessing there were maybe six FM sticks in the market total.

I grew up listening to and eventually working for a CHR that was once that dominant, too. Wasn't a whole lot of rap on CHR's in 1995-1999, but suffice to say that legendary CHR wasn't drawing the same 20+ shares it used to in the 70s and 80s because there was MUCH more competition.

Any REALLY radio DJ worth his mettle gets canned. Your swipe almost literally invalidates yourself. Touche' relic.

Oh the venom!

The personal attacks are pathetic.

Peace brothers.

The radio industry is destroying itself with unsustainable debt. Personalities and playlists are irrelevant when you can't pay the INTEREST on your loan. The PRINCIPLE can't be touched. Ever.

Radio is done. No one needs it anymore. You can patch together an existence in it for a while as an employee dodging the ax but the debt load of the consolidators has sealed radio's fate. It has nothing to do with quality or talent. It's a downward financial spiral.

No one cares but those that seem to be in the broadcast bubble. Listeners have zero that's ZERO passion for FM. AM is past dead already.

So stop trashing each other and just prepare for Cumulus and CC bankruptcies.

Before they go under they will fire more people.

Word is Clear Channel has a round coming in JUNE and another in December.

They have no choice...they have NO money. Listeners have no passion. Employees have no hope.
