Mix 97.1 - Surprises & Speculation

Listening to WBNS-FM this afternoon, and have been surprised to hear "Funky Cold Medina", and especially "Low Rider" from 1975 (despite the "80's, 90's, More" slogan).

Also, I notice that Mix 97.1 stopped promoting its morning show just about the time Shawn Ireland disappeared from CC's 93.3. Probably a coincidence, but it makes me wonder...<P ID="signature">______________

I did hear a runor about Shawn Ireland moving cross street to WBNS after her 6 month is up with Clear Channel. WBNS has really been trying to develop their talent. Supposedly another rumor is they are going to start a Matt and Ramona type show in the afternoon, so maybe they will put her on with Mark? Mark and Shawn.... Possible!

I really doubt the other alternative, CC is moving her to their new Dublin move in. I don't see her Blazin Hip Hop with Shawn Ireland... I am not saying that the new WMRN is Hip Hop, but who knows, look what they are doing in Mansfield LOL...

I had a variant of the same thought, namely Mark & Shawn -- but in the morning not the afternoon. Both are NCI alums from the 90's. WIth Mix 97.1 hammering home their music re-positioning right now, I doubt they'd be planning a move to an all-talk afternoon show a la Matt & Ramona. I *have* noticed that Mark has been off-air a lot over the past week even though I don't think he's been on vacation. I know that's getting almost ridiculously speculative, but adds just one more "hmmm..." to the mix.

...But Hot AC seems a better fit for her than just about any other format in town. Someone pointed out in an earlier thread that she's still on the WTVN website, but I don't think her program is on anymore (if I'm wrong, someone please correct me).

Possible, sure, but, if you wanted a "Matt and Ramona" show in the afternoon, why not just put on the "Matt and Ramona" show in the afternoon??!

Just the latest move by GM Van Stone trying to polish the same old t..d. He's had experience with AC and country at COL, why don't he try something else before the Wolf family loses patience, like country legends or something that he don't have to squeeze into. NCI on one side and Sunny on the other. No money in the middle.

Can't agree on that one. On the whole Sunny is decidely soft-leaning by today's Mainstream AC standards. Hell, even some stations that label themselves Soft AC's are now playing stuff Sunny would avoid as "too hot". So there's plenty of room between SNY and a CHR -- even a conservative one like NCI. But the opportunity has to be exploited properly. BNS-FM let itself become stale, and it's never had a morning show that's jelled. So it lost relevance to listeners. Maybe their current changes will help if they execute properly, keep it fresh, and make mornings work.

Speaking of Country Legends, have to give kudos to K95.5 for its performance of late.<P ID="signature">______________
