Mix 97.1

I was listening to Mix 97.1 over the Christmas weekend and they were doing something kind of cool. Every song was in order playing first an 80's song, then a 90's song, and then Now. It was a refreshing change to the same ole', same ole' stale radio we are so used to in this town. It's a great concept that I wish they would consider doing all the time.

On the flip side....

If I was RadiOhio for a day, I would flip 97.1 to CHR and go to battle with NCI. Wouldn't that be fun?
______________

Their website www.mix971.net has 2 internet streams, the FM version or the new Highstreet version "Mix of World Class Rock". Interesting, sounds like RadioOhio needs to buy a 2nd FM in the market.

Very interesting. Does Mix have something up their sleeve or could this be a new concept in radio? Looks like Mix is doing something we rarely see, they are "thinking out of the box".
______________

Maybe the 102.5 move in from Zanesville? Or maybe they buy one from Clear Channel after they move 106.7 in, like 105.7?

Multi-channel HD in the future? (Yea I know that only a few radio stations are currently permitted to broadcast multi-channel, it's just a stab in the dark)

Actually, BNS continues to be blocked from buying another station due to the FCC's outdated cross-ownership rules. Remember, they have a co-owned newspaper and TV station. So this *might* lend support to the upcoming-HD-channel theory, as a way for them to finally expand.
______________

They could do IBOC right now if they wanted to fire up an IBOC Transmitter, Clear Channel is doing IBOC Subchannels in various markets already (chicago, Miami, NYC, etc)

Ah... I was not aware of that rule... I had only known of the 7 station limit rule. Thanks for the clarification.

Interesting. I was under the impression that the only stations with FCC approval to multicast in HD were NPR stations (Tomorrow Radio initiative) so I went to check it out here:

http://www.ibiquity.com/cgi-bin/liststations?state=&go=Go!

I didn't see any Clear Channel stations doing it on that list but there were a ton of Infinity stations doing it. Is there special FCC approval needed to multicast that maybe Clear Channel is slow to apply for? Seeing as how they are already broadcasting in HD on 105.7, 1230 and 610 and it looks like 92.3 soon but no multicasting on any of them. It can't be that difficult to actually implement but if you need to cut through some red tape I can see that slowing things down a bit.

So anyway, the "Highstreet Mix" is interesting on WBNS... tackling World Class Rock. Too bad the number of people listening to HD or internet radio is practically non-existent and hence useless to selling to advertisers.
Edited by CMHDave on 12/27/05 06:13 PM.

Hey this is off the subject, but what happened to their new morning show (the 4th one?) I check in every once in awhile but I'm not hearing anything. Any news?

Honestly? If nobody knows then nobody's listening. There is your answer.
______________

FREE-FM 92.3 in New York streams their signal at 923freefm.com and another stream at krock2.com - so what Mix97 is doing isn't real *new* per se.
