Mix 97.1

I have to say, Mix 97.1 has improved. I took a listen to them today and I hear POP HITS. They've been staying away from the whole 80's deal and making it sound much more CHR and it's working. There's tons of 80s-oriented stations in the market.

Brew
Radio 1067
Sunny/93-3 will play some
I'm sure you can find more.

Do you think if Mix added more CHR hits, it could beat Sunny again and start looking further up the 12+ chart? Look at Power, they took a hit and I don't see them getting that back so easy. Mix' imaging, and music sounds so CHR. Your Station, Your Music -- Mix 97.1... I called them today and requested two CHR songs (not even hip-hop!) even though I've heard 'em play Nelly's Ride Wit Me and they couldn't play them.

1. All-American Rejects - Gives You Hell
2. Veronicas - Untouched

Both gaining CHR POP HITS that they should be on.

Whatcha think?

I hope 97.1 keeps in the direction they are going. If i owned 97.1 i'd keep the mix persona and this would be a sample hour of what i'd play.
1.three 6 mafia-i got
2.huey-pop lock and drop it
3.bun b-that's gangsta
4.michelle branch-all you wanted
5.slim thug-i run
6.soulja boy-bird walk
7.nickelback-gotta be somebody
8.shawty lo-foolish
9.jay z-jockin' jay z
10.ti-top back
11.maroon 5-she will be loved
12.webbie-independent
any thoughts?

Think WDVD in Detroit! Not Hip Hop and Slow Jamz with a few Hot AC title smashed in between...ick!

Maybe Mix 97.1 should have a weekend where "YOU" program the station. They could promote this for a week or two, and then let the listeners loose with programing an hour per listener. Maybe even have other listeners vote on which was the best. In doing so, not only could they get more people to listen, but they could find out what the listeners "really" want to hear.

Just a thought,

Been there, done that. Remember "The Whatever Weekend" and "The Whatever Lunch"?

RadiOhio obviously subscribes to the Family Guy philosophy: http://www.hulu.com/watch/25090/family-guy-weenie-and-the-butt

Also from that episode: "Well, as we say in the radio business, 'If you put that on the radio, people will listen to it!'"

Just a thought,

That's an idea. One hour of CHR. One hour of Hot AC. One hour of Rhythmic. One hour of AC. And have Columbus vote.

Actually, Radiohio had an awesome imaging guy, but they blew him out not to long ago. Maybe that's why they sound like weenie and the butt.

Oh, yes I remember Whatever Weekends and Lunchs. Those were must listen to Radio times. ;)

With the Mr. Winky I'm not sure whether you're being sincere or sarcastic. Anyway, I give the Whatever Weekends a winkless thumbs up. Wish they'd bring them back, although I know that's not in the cards. The Whatever Lunches were much less interesting.

Sorry for any confusion. I was being sincere about the Whatever Weekends. Very enjoyable!

Yes, Mix 97.1 is sounding MUCH better these days. It sounds like they're FINALLY leaving the 80s behind. With 2010 just a year away, now is the time to abandon the 80s. There is plenty of 90s and 2000s tunes to pick from. The 80s are tired and stale.
Another CHR-type song they're spinning is "Let's Dance" by Lady Gaga...I also heard Usher's 2004 hit "Yeah" on New Year's Eve, and Christina Aguilera's "Keeps Gettin' Better".
I believe the guy that used to do their imaging was out of New York, and his name was Jude...I remember that he did the imaging for a few months in 2001-02 for Z-93 in Dayton.
A good station slogan for a CHR-leaning Hot AC like Mix 97.1 would be "Your Hit Music and More". That way, you could dump the tired "80s, 90s, Now" slogan of the past few years. 8)

About time too! I hear more 80's during the day though. As CHR-sounding as they are, they need to dump the 80's, 90's, NOW. It's time.... My choice of slogan is.... "Columbus' Hit Music -- Mix 97.1" Similar to Q102 in Cincinnati.

Well if I want to listen to 80's music I can tune to 106.7 HD2. Plus there is now little reason for me to listen to The Fan on the AM dial now. Since it is simulcast on 97.1 HD2.
