Mix 98.5 and Mix 104.1: Simultaneous Broadcast??

Looks like Mix 98.5 does the switch over to 104.1 on 8/12 while Boston's Sports Hub doesn't start till 8/13. Does this mean Mix will be on both frequencies for a day? Perhaps this is a way for ensuring a smoother changeover without losing anyone???

Hmmmm ???

Could be a possibility, but an unnessesarry one, as most of their audience have most likely heard the buzz.

Could well be the situation...I think something similar happened when WKLB moved to 96.9 from 105.7
taking over for WBCS (2 country stations in town but then they merged)

>>In late August [1996], WKLB-FM and WBCS began a brief simulcast, which ended on September 5 when 105.7 became WROR-FM, moving the WKLB-FM calls down to 96.9, which remained country as “Country 96.9”.

I don't listen to WBMX usually but put on 98.5 at one point and heard an announcer talking about the
move and how we should "re-set our pre-sets"

I wouldn't be amazed. It's a good way to avoid any of the notorious "un-intended programming" that often comes when you kill a Rock station. Simulcast the signals ahead of when you said you would so any parting gifts from displeased former jocks are rendered inert.

Don't know if that would be the case with WBCN as they are continuing to exist in some form (HD-2, Internet) and continuing to staff people.

I would doubt the Aug-13 switch date is written in stone. Could very likely be earlier for 104.1.

The HD-2/internet only WBCN is going to have paid staff? It's not going to be just an automated jukebox with liners?

The cutover needs to be done quickly and swiftly. No sense for any kind of dual frequency broadcast for one day. That would just create more confusion. On 8/12, 104.1 will be the new home of Mix and that's that. On 98.5, they will most likely run a computerized loop telling Mix listeners to move down the dial to 104.1 and for sports junkies to come back tomorrow for the debut of the Sports Hub 98-5.

but they've already announced that they're doing retrospective of WBCN Aug 8-12; they'd cut it short?
or pull the switch early (put WBMX on 104.1 and a "look back at WBCN" on 98.5 for a couple days before
the 12th/13th?) I don't know, I get the sense they will do the switch on schedule.

Or maybe there will be a countdown clock of sorts on 98-5 before the debut of the new Sports Hub.

Hmmmm... possibly but I think that they would be more likely to do that if the general public didn't already know about the impending switch and what the new format was going to be.

My money is on them going "business as usual" until almost the very end, and then maybe with 20-30 minutes to go before "the switch" they might play an audio montage of sorts, covering BMX's history on 98.5 from the very beginning to now (maybe we will hear some audio cuts with Joe Martelle, Lander, Grag Daniels, etc. etc.) ...

And I just realized something that I haven't heard a lot of people mention: Has BMX really been around now for 18-19 years??? WOW, do I feel old!!!
