Mix 98.5 Whatever Wednesday

On the website, Mix 98.5 was playing whatever, taking requests all day Wednesday. Did they really play, whatever? Something way out of the ordinary? Was the variety there? Well, hats off to them for raising over $17,000 for Katrina victims.<P ID="signature">______________

I listened in the morning. They were playing pretty much Jack-style stuff, with some songs like "Son of a Preacher Man" that Jack doesn't really play.

One of the co-hosts on "Lander in the Morning" made a donation as well, and wanted to hear "Baby It's Cold Outside". This morning, as the show discussed Wednesday's effort, the same host bragged and said "...we even played Baby It's Cold Outside", though the previous morning, it did not seem that anyone other than herself enjoyed the song.

Either way, kudos to Mix. It's clearly not something that 98.5 Jack FM would have been able to do.

(Afterthought: Mike FM is doing some sort of backpack drop-off at, of course, their favorite advertiser, Boch Honda. But they aren't doing what Mix did.)

They also played Iz's rendition of "Somewhere Over The Rainbow/What a Wonderful World," from the Meet Joe Black soundtrack. I guess it is really "Whatever" when you hear a ukelele on Mix.

speaking of whatever: WROR (jab at Mike?)

Last night in the wee wee hours as I was driving home from work (4 am or so)
I heard WROR do a promo that sounded like they were poking fun at Mike 93.7.
An announcer, sounding very similar to the "Mike" guy, said, "And now here's
another gem plucked from the obscurity of our vaults. We play whatever we want.
105.7. WROR" And they went into "Keep on Smiling" by Wet Willie.

Again, sounded like 'ROR was poking fun at Mike, or at least at the 'voice' of Mike and his sarcastic comments.

That song can be heard every sunday just before noon on WBOS, and was also used in the 50 First Dates movie, but it is not on the soundtrack

Re: speaking of whatever: WROR (jab at Mike?)

Many times, Loren and Wally in the morning (especially Loren) have made comments poking fun at Mike-FM.

And Barry Scott does it all the time on his Lost 45s show on Oldies 103.
