Mix Evenings

I just heard on Mix 100.7 that John Tesh starts there on Monday evening.

I'm curious to check out Tesh's show. But I'm wondering how the show will fit in with Mix's format. (By the way, what IS Mix's format?) I'm wondering why Mix is going syndicated. Could they not compete with a local show against Delilah on Magic 94.9? Is it strictly a cost-cutting move?

I enjoy Mix and I think I'll enjoy Tesh if the music isn't all sappy love ballads.

Tesh has been on 92.1 - Venice for some time... which is more of a WDUV format...

Early this year, WLTW/New York let go longtime local host J.J. Kennedy in favor of the syndicated Delilah. What does that tell you?

Just FYI...Tesh has been on 92.1 (Lite FM) for at least 3 years...and the station is more of a "Mix" format than a WDUV format....

Hmmm... let's do the math. Mix = Clear Channel property. Clear Channel = the king of cost-cutting. Mix + Clear Channel + John Tesh at nights = cost-cutting.

Too bad for Kyle Roberts. A good guy who got strung along by Clear Channel for over a year on a part-time basis. John Tesh + Mix = zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

They were stringing along a part timer who probably thought he had a shot at getting fulltime? I've never heard of that happening before. ;) Seriously, If there was a live body in there after 7 (and not voicetracked) I'm surprised. Going with Tesh... simply the way it is nowadays. Evenings on an AC station has gone the way of overnights... simply a write off. Save money where you will... but there's no excuse for some of the songs/segues I hear on this station. I just can't figure out why CC doesn't put more effort into programming this station correctly. It's not likely many people's P1 or even P2.... and adding Tesh in the evenings isn't gonna help.

Kyle Roberts was never strung along as you suggested! A little fact known is that people who work part-time in radio have jobs OUTSIDE the business. How do you think they survive? Mr. Roberts has a very good and well paying 9-5 he works everyday and was doing the 7pm to midnight shift for fun! Yes, some people do still have fun in radio! Shame radio isn't making it very fun for anyone anymore :(

Re: fun radio

Radio still is fun... for me at least. I've been at CC doing tons of the behind-the-scene work for FLZ/MTX/FLA ... Brian Holmes and Stan Priest brought out that passion for radio which I still have today. Even when I'm behind the board just running it... I'm still up dancing and moving about... radio today is what you make of it.

I currently do a weekend overnight shift on FLZ once a month... not bad for starting since I'm a "youngin" in the industry. I would say the only thing I disagree with is our use of VT... which should be the "live" training ground for new jocks like myself... But, that is uncontrollable at the moment - so I'll learn anyway, even if it takes a little longer.

Doing it for fun, until he gets replaced by a satellite feed? Please, sir...he had a dream. We all do. If you're living yours then I applaud you, but you can't tell me that Kyle doesn't care about being replaced by JT. Being replaced is not in the least bit "fun". It would be another thing if he knew about it when he started, but we all know that didn't happen.

Come again?

As posted by you July 12, 2006, regarding the then-open night position at Mix following Amy Newman's exit:

shame that there is such bs politics in radio, but thats how they roll. and by the way, amy was never full time, she was part time so you can expect to see another PARTTIMER in there doing a fulltimers job at half the cost and even less respect!

So much for that whole "doing radio for fun" nonsense.
