Mix HD2 Baltimore

Just wondering if anyone else likes this station. I knew they switched their HD2 station ("Mix 2") from CHR to Dance/CHR a couple of months ago, but I hadn't checked them out yet. Wow, This is a really good sounding Dance/CHR hybrid. They have Pat Garrett doing sweepers, and the production is much better than most HD2 jukeboxes. Also, musically, they bill themselves as "dance and hip hop". They even have one sweeper that says "mostly dance, with just a little bit of Hip Hop". They sound very similar to old format that "95-3 Party" Orlando used to do, or the types of formats that Z103.5 Toronto and Galaxy and Kiss in the U.K. do. (Remixes of pop hits, lots of dance gold from the past 10 years, and about 20 percent dancey sounding hip hop). This is the type of mainstream Dance/CHR hybrid that I think could possibly work if done on a full signal station somewhere (especially with the growing popularity of dance at mainstream CHR right now). I would love to see CBS, or anyone, launch this format on a full HD1 signal somewhere.

Anyone else checked them out yet and have any thoughts?

This took me back to when Party LI had Pat Garrett VO until 2006. I would love to see this style be on stations nationwide. Thing is, Party tried in NYC, but things didn't set well with the core fans and the hip-hop on Party, which they always had on rotation since day one.

I was passing through Baltimore on the way from DC and tuned in to Mix 2. I heard a dance mixshow start at noon with DJ John Boucher, the station's resident DJ, on the HD2! So it's not just a jukebox. I heard only one hip hop song, Taio Cruz - Break Your Heart. You can check out the station online if you don't live within sight of the WWMX tower at http://player.play.it/player/player.html?id=13987

I remember complaining about this station about 6 months ago the last time I went to DC because it played too much hip hop, and repeated old songs twice an hour. Now, I have no complaints about it, except for the signal. It was only reliable within 10 miles of Baltimore, but I could hear Mix 106.5 analog all the way to Delaware. The signal actually went further northeast of Baltimore, most likely because WJFK in DC eliminated one of WWMX's HD sidebands. But it was gone completely 25 miles northeast of Baltimore.

Baltimore has Mix 2, Philly has Hot Wired, Connecticut has KC101-HD2, New York City has no current dance on HD2 (Pride Radio isn't current based).

Um.....pride does play current dance. I heard Love Keeps Calling from Annagrace and Steve Aoki on rotation. Remember, pride is targeting the GLBT community, and in Canada, this sound is considered pop (103.9 Proud FM Toronto.) If I dont feel like listening to my songs on my Zune, I switch to 103.5 HD2. I do wish there was a dance HD station at the shore......or could it be coming soon :X

Unfortunately, Canada is going with DAB. In other words, no HD2 for now.

I didn't say Pride didn't play currents at all, I said that it wasn't focused on currents like all the other HD2 stations I mentioned.

Explain this:

So which is it, either Pride is not much as current, or Pride doesn't play current at all.  To me, this looks like you said Pride is not current at all with the "NYC has no current dance" comment.  Pride sounds fine with new and classic dance mixed in, and they do play a good amount of currents in there.  They has a similar sound to Hot96.net

I last sampled Pride months ago, and didn't notice too many currents. I'm going to sample Pride for at least an hour tomorrow. As a straight male, I'm not in the target demographic of Pride Radio so maybe that's why I think its mix of music seems eccentric with a currents, disco, and even some non-dance songs all mixed together. I just wish there was a dance HD2 that didn't stereotype dance as gay, like Club Phusion.

Anyways, back on the topic at hand, I've been listening to Mix 2 online today and I love the sound of the station. I heard some golds I haven't heard in years, like Plummet - Cherish The Day. I wonder who's programming it, they're putting a lot of effort into an HD2 station. A station like this would make me want to install an HD radio in my car.
