R&R today is reporting that Kent Phillips @ MIX is "spending more time developing programming for the company." (a.k.a. not doing mornings or PD anymore) I've heard rumors that MIX will flip to ROCK in the very near future. Anybody else heard anything??

Uh-huh. Sure. OK. Fine.

I've heard Kent plans to develop the punk-country format, based on that old TM demo LP.

Phillips works for STAR 101.5, not MIX 92.5. MIX has launched
a straight ahead attack against STAR with more 80's, many fewer
commercials and stronger contests. None of that is Phillips doing.
The press release says Phillips has been promoted to group programming,
but will still do mornings and program STAR. With so many jobs I am
guessing it will be easier for MIX this time around. Both stations
are slipping and Phillips just added more duties: not smart!

You got that right! Hah! Phillips adds group pd duties to
mornings, pd, tv, theatre blah blah blah. Sounds like MIX
will be able to bounce on STAR, with Phillips too busy to care.
Keep an eye on MIX. Better music and about half the commercials
of STAR.

Let's see, this is the third time in the past five years they have tried this, right? Wonder if it will work without a permanent PD in place this time.

"Fewer commercials" because they have no core audience and scattered demos (at best) to sell, and they are competing against a well-established and well-oiled machine in KPLZ.

All the KLSY contests running now are sales promos. Besides, KLSY would be better served concentrating on their product rather than trying to give away Cirque du Soleil tickets. And if giving away Cirque du Soleil tickets is deemed as being "stronger contests," then maybe Kent should up the ante by giving away some Dick's Deluxe burgers.

Yes.

Right. And what exactly is Mix going to do? And who is going to do it? I don't recall Mix ever hiring a permanent PD yet.

As for being smart, Phillips did mornings, PD duties and Northwest Afternoon. Bill West's sole job was programming KLSY and he couldn't even do that right.

Bill West's sole job was to program KLSY, and Kent Phillips beat him handily.

And tell us who is going to take Mix to the next plateau.

"Dialing for Dick's", eh? Oh wait, Charlie & Ty tried that once and nearly got fired. I wonder how well that promoation would go today?

And somehow West got the KSFI/Salt Lake City gig. (A station you CAN'T screw up, so if he does.....)
