Mix-Mas 104.1??

This may or not mean anything, but......

Given speculation on messageboards like this that with WODS-103.3 having gone top-40/CHR that CBS Radio Boston would instead flip WBMX-104.1 to all-Christmas this year, comes a little ad in the new issue of a freebie publication called The Norwood Shopper (a publication mostly of ads which is mailed to every home in Norwood, Massachusetts, which is where I reside).

The ad is sponsored by AJT Supplies of Foxboro and West Roxbury (a neighborhood of Boston), Massachusetts. In it, AJT notes that "every Saturday in December" (presumably through December 22nd), "(WBMX) Mix 104.1's Street Team will be on-location at AJT Supplies in West Roxbury playing Great Holiday Classics and giving away Prizes..." (these are direct quotes from the ad).

I suspect the ad also appeared in similar publications in other nearby communities southwest of Boston.

Perhaps in 2011 and earlier, it would have been the WODS "Street team" doing this promotion.

I'm posting this because maybe it's a tip-off that "Mix 104.1" might go all-Christmas. Maybe they'll temporarily rebrand themselves "Mix-Mas 104.1".

Besides, you don't flip a new Top-40 ("Amp Radio 103.3") to all-Christmas, and the only way classic rocker WZLX would be flipped is if it were to be a stunt with a new format on 100.7 (a simulcast of WBZ-1030?) after the Holidays.

So if CBS is going to go all-Christmas on analog FM in Boston this year, it would have to be Mix ("Mix-Mas") 104.1 by process of elimination.

Forget About It! Nobody's gonna go all-Christmas on analog this year! It's all gonna be on HD2 or HD3. And don't expect WROR to go all Christmas, either! They're gonna stay the course of classic hits through the holidays, but they'll mix the holiday tunes into their regular format and go all Christmas at 6 p.m. on the night before and go back to regular programming at 6 a.m. on the morning after.

I'm going to go the moderate route here and say that only WROR will flip to all-Christmas for any extended period. They don't have the pressure like they have in years past to flip early since WODS in its oldies version is no longer in existence and have to compete with it. I don't think that CBS will flip any of its stations until perhaps the final day or two, or maybe during the weekends, which would likely be WBMX. And no, nothing will happen to WZLX either--it's a solid money maker right now and is having its best numbers, despite a dip in the most recent PPMs. 101.7 The Harbor is a possibility, but not a definite. Greater Media will likely flip WROR close to Thanksgiving. Maybe, just maybe, GM will flip WMJX instead if they're afraid that flipping WROR will cause listeners to defect to The Harbor, but I still think WROR will flip.

And to think, it was this time last year that both 103.3 and 105.7 were both already spreading holiday cheer.

>>The Canadian pharmacy chain Shoppers Drug Mart wanted the holiday spirit in its 1,100 stores. So it swapped out pop tunes for Christmas carols on Nov. 1. The chain got so many complaints, it suspended the holiday music until further notice.

Would be great if ZLX could be allowed some Christmas songs this year. I always miss "Father Christmas" by The Kinks and "Santa Claus And His Old Lady" by Cheech & Chong. Too many of the all X-mas formats don't allow for the rock Christmas songs like those two.

For what it's worth, Karson of the Mix morning show has already posted in one of the many (many many many...) Christmas threads that Mix will NOT go all Christmas.

If mix goes all Christmas, it would be to clear out the air staff and reinvent themselves....

Could be some truth in that. Send the Mix air staff over to the Amp to fill in some of the slots there. Mix would lose a big chunk of their core listeners anyway by going all Christmas. After the holidays they could come back as an AC format. The AC format would be less overlap with the Amp's playlist, and the new Mix could be CBS's new 'home for the holidays' in Boston.

Maybe like Fresh 104.1 But probably won't happen in my opinion.

That would really not be that much different from Mix. I don't know if its "official" yet, but Fresh 102.7 in NY sure sounds like a Hot AC to me.
