Mix Middays

Mix 106.5 has a new midday girl. Lori Bradley seems to have replaced the rotation between Cindy Spicer and Kat Jackson. Good move for Mix, although Kat was sounding better towards the end. Cindy was always about as exciting to listen to as watching a piece of bread mold. Kat still has her Saturday night and Sunday afternoon shifts. Cindy is out, although i'm sure she is still VTing countless other CC Mix stations.

Now, will they keep Scott on PM drive, or bring in someone else? I say - move Jay Hudson back to PM Drive and get a new, GOOD, night show. Jay is, IMO, the best jock on the station and I never understood why he got bumped to nights unless it was his choice - Maria Farina was a bomb during her short stint on middays.

We need to get some personality back on Mix! Good first step, as I have enjoyed Lori Bradley these last two days.

There was a Lori Bradley on Mix 92.5 (not a Clear Channel station) in Seattle. Not sure if this is the same Lori. Anyone know?

Not sure about that, but she was most recently at Mix 100.5 in Rochester.

Yep. Same Lori Bradley.
She still lives in Seattle.
VTing from home.

She used to voicetrack about a half dozen CC stations when she was in Houston.

Neither will happen. They're looking for an afternoon guy; OA's blog has the job listing:

Jay's assuredly staying in the evening shift. I agree: besides Brian & Joe, Jay is the only solid jock I'd keep. And it looks to be the case. Hey, at lest they're *LIVE* in the evenings...

BTW, Kat Jackson's the evening host at WGAR/99.5. At least she moved to Cleveland a few weeks back; she VT'ed for WMVX and WGAR from her old home, (and my namesake) WNCO/101.3 in Ashland.

Truthfully, WMVX has never had any **consistent** sense of personality on their lineup ever since the jox were only allowed to read just the weather reports back in 1997. (The "JackFM" folk should pay homage to whoever was WMVX's PD back then - it was Dave Popovich's replacement...)

Lori Bradley used to be with CC MIX/Houston. Not sure where she is now. I doubt she's actually in Cleveland.<P ID="signature">______________

A couple years intervened there Nate. Popovich left Lite Rock in 94 or so, headed to One Radio Lane and WDOK (an Embrescia-Wilson-Pollack station), while still with McVay Media as VP/Oldies-AC, then to WMJI as PD, along with Mix until February of this year.

Mix PD in 1997? Good question. Maybe A.B. Lincoln? A.N. Other?

You're right. Dave first was WDOK's chief consultant with McVay, literally lifting the "Lite Rock" format onto WDOK. Only after Embrescia-Wilson-Pollack sold out to AMFM (PD Sue Wilson, of that same group, was let go as a result) in 1999 did Dave become WDOK's PD.

My bad: I probably got Dave confused with former WTAM/WLTF GM Dennis Best, who was let go by Jacor after their buyout in 1997. Jim Meltzer was his replacement.

The only thing I remember is that he came from ABC O&O "Mix 107.3" WRQX/107.3 in Washington. And he didn't last that long at all. I may know who to ask; it may take a few days...

Ding! Ding! Ding! I know Johnny (and Nate). WLTF became WMVX in 1998 when Jacor bought the station. First official PD of WMVX "Where the V stands for Variety" was (drumroll)...Randy James.

James' had been PD of MIX/Dayton, the first MIX station under Jacor. Randy then came to Cleveland to sign on WMVX. He would leave about a year later to go to Dallas. He wasn't there long. MIX/Dallas didn't do well. Randy ended up back in Dayton with Blue Chip or Radio One. Can't remember. Not sure where he is now.

Randy may not have pioneered the 3 voice imaging that the MIX stations employed (John Pleisse, Jennifer Vaughn and a Brit named Ollie). I do know that TR was a part of the imaging revolution. I recall listening to WMVX when it signed on. It was something Cleveland had never heard before. And yes, Jacor's MIX format was the precursor to "JACK". Jack is a more simplified version, especially with the imaging, but it's essentially the same thing.

Had WMVX matured under Randy's guidance I think it would still be a player in Cleveland, as well as other markets for the MIX brand. Most evolved independantly of each other without his involvement. At one time WMMS' Jonathan Tea (A&E Biography)was the voice of the Dallas station.

OMW Weighs In On Midday Mix

Ms. Bradley is now on the new Mix 106.5 (new CC style) website in middays, so OMW's decided to look into this:

<a target="_blank" href=http://ohiomedia.blogspot.com/2005/08/mixs-new-midday-mix.html>http://ohiomedia.blogspot.com/2005/08/mixs-new-midday-mix.html</a>

Our Mighty Blog of Fun(tm) found Ms. Bradley still on Mix/Rochester, NY's website, but gone from the schedule of her former home station in Houston. She's also on the schedule at K-Love sister CCM network "Air 1", also in middays (another VT, I assume). Same publicity pic on that site - right down to the blue shirt!

Ms. Spicer is based out of San Diego, and is moving within that market's CC cluster next Monday, from middays at AC "my 94.1" (ex-Mix 94.1!) to middays/MD at country "US 95.7".

Thanks for the info Chuck!

It's sad that Randy would be so forgotten, so quickly. When Mix first arrived, there was a clear spike in attention and ratings. I agree: had he stayed here, combined with Brian & Joe, WMVX would not be seen as a clear "weak link" in the CC chain.

And wouldn't it BE ironic if WMVX DID succumb to a "JackFM"- type format again?
