Mix Nights

So if every union air talent in Boston quit today, they'd all get replaced on the spot, and the stations wouldn't lose a nickel of revenue?

I would venture a guess that the overall ratings would change
very little, if at all. The public is very fickle. Once a "personality"
is gone, they fade from public perception quickly. As long as the
station continues to play the format to which they are accustomed,
they will tune in, no matter who is in the "air chair". (including voice
tracking or unattended). "Personalities" are subjective, at best.
For every listener who likes Personality A, there is one
that does not. Gain one, lose one. It's a wash...One man's
"revolutionary" is another man's "freedom fighter"...

Okay. Let's get rid of all the jocks and play music 24/7! Works for Kiss 108. They're boring...but I don't blame their owners either.

With more of the "Mike", "Jack" (whatever...) type of
stations coming on the scene, that would appear to be
the way it is going. The traditional DJ model has been
declining for many years. DJ's now have very little (if any)
input into programming. Music Directors/Program Directors
pick the music (often with consultants' input...) - the "DJ"
is reduced to making a couple of silly comments several
times an hour. Most casual listeners would never know the
difference if a station was voice tracked. From a BUSINESS
standpoint, it all makes good economic sense. Remember -
this is a BUSINESS, above all else...

Alright then. All the existing jocks will have to entertain people for a living without a transmitter. I found a way to make it happen. I wish them luck in the same.

How nice for you! And you are...? And your
audience is...? Can you count your entire
audience on both hands, or do you need
to use your toes also? ::)

Where the hell are you going with this? You just spent the entire thread agreeing with me...and now you're playing smart-ass?

Audience? Pal, you've been doing radio for too long. REVENUE. I make enough of it.

I hope Deirdre Dagata gets the position on Mix. I have met her before, and she is amazing, and a very nice woman.
