Mix shows Not the same

Rhythmic and mainstream stations aren’t having near the number of mixes and mix shows anymore. Trend has been occurring the last several years. As KS and others here have stated a combination of lack of revenue, cuts and ratings.

Radio is in decline and those type of shows are the first to go.

Also, a more minor contribution to this is that young people don’t go clubbing or have the same habits a generation before did when it comes to hitting the bar or club on a given night with the regularity seen before. So radio doesn’t have the live broadcasts and number of advertisers catering to that. It’s not that it doesn’t happen at all but radio doesn’t have a role in it like it used to.

I agree. If there are mix shows, its usually pre-recorded are recycled from the previous week for some stations I’ve listen to.

What happen to mix shows lotta stations not doin noon mixers or lunch time mixing no more
102 Jamz in Greensboro still have live mixing at 12pm, 5pm, and 10pm during the week. 10pm Friday and Saturday.
Hot 100.9 in Indianapolis has live mixing on Saturday nights, 7pm-2am. They have a 12pm and a 5pm mix during the week.
Power 93.5 in Wichita has Dj Cadence at 5pm which is a very good mixshow.
106.1 KMEL in San Francisco has a live commercial-free 5pm mix.
There are more that I know of as well, but it's not the same as it was....

I suggest you enjoy the remaining mix shows while you still can. The comments by @ksradiogeek and @radiorobert make excellent points and no one sees the trends reversing. Like so many features that have come and gone over the years, the novelty wore off long ago and stations are cutting every "expense" that doesn't bring in revenue.

And I agree that much of what's left on a scattered handful of stations has declined in quality. (Which isn't going to do much to reverse the hastening of their demise.)

Most mix shows are pre recorded and recycled as someone else stated. Especially iHeart hip hop stations on Friday/Saturday nights.

Growing up in the South, the “20 Minute Workout” mixes during lunch, “5 O'clock Traffic Jam” and the “9 O’clock Cutt Up” was a big deal. Even the live broadcast from nightclubs where the DJ and Host inside the club could be heard on the radio was huge. By the way, WHTA Atlanta is what I'm referencing.
