Mix Shows

On national or international CHR and/or rhythmic stations, what makes a good mix show and what are some station or show examples? Alternatively, what makes a bad mix show? What are some examples of poorly done evening or weekend mixes and why?

I love mix shows but haven't been exposed to many. Channel 955 out of Detroit has some good stuff and I absolutely love Remix Friday's on Manila's RX 93.1. On the other hand, Raleigh NC's G105's Friday night show leaves much to be desired. Since most stations have at least something on the weekends, what's worth checking out?

I'm not sure If this question would be better fitted for the CHR board, but as I'm not sure If cross-posting is frowned upon or not, I'll let it stand.

Most mixshows aren't even live anymore. Pre-recorded mixes syndicated or done in house. When was the last time you actually heard a DJ scratch? A mixshow with high energy and music speed up some always grabs my attention(ex BLAZIN 102.3 www.blazin1023.com). I love the Urban and Rhythmics that broadcast live from nightclubs with a live DJ. Here in ATL, our Hip-Hop station HOT 107.9 does live nightclub broadcast Thurs-Sun 10pm-2am. www.hotspotatl.com

I just dont like terrorsit mixing, where they drop bombs instead of beat match.. B-96 in Chicago has good mixshows but much of it is dance music.

Nick@night spins live on 93blx down here in mobile every night. I love it when he goes way left and spins some obscure house track or even new wave in the mix. One night he mixed in pet shop boys west end girls and then threw in sadat funk dat! :D

Here in ATL, V-103(urban) and MAJIC 107.5(urban ac) always spins some Baltimore House Music in the mix live from the clubs the braodcast at. I love those beats!

Here in Dallas/Ft. Worth, we have some pretty good mixers. On 97.9 The Beat, we have Dj Phil from The Rickey Smiley Show, and M-Squared who both mixes and scratches like it supoosed to be done. Over at K104, there's Steve Nice, Throwdown Sam, and Dj Hollywood who mixes and scratches as well. K104 has also brought back the "Weekend Block Party Mix", where all three mixers mix for thirty minutes every hour, 12pm-1am on Saturdays and 12pm-10pm on Sundays.

I wish we had some good mixshows here,, The stations here only mix on late SAT Nights, and 102 jamz has a back in the day mix at noon, and they throw in some 80s dance at times..
