MJ Out......Kane In?

Okay,
I m not one for listening to rumors in radio.....but I heard a good one the other day from within Clear Channel tampa. A sales rep told me that MJ's contract is up at the end of the year, which most know if you listen to bubba, Orlando or anyone else in the market that is a competitor of WFLZ. But what was shocking was that they said, they will not renew MJ's Contract and instead replace him with KANE!!! So if that is true Kane and his crew would be in and Fester, Joey B, Froggy 2 and the others would be moved around to the different stations or terminated! So would he be doing his show live from DC or Tampa? The sales rep also claimed that WFLZ was finally going to a digital board, which i thought everyone made the switch......even the community station WMNF is a digital board. The reason they haven't switched was MJ thinks like myself and other old timers, if it ain't broke don't fix or replace it!

Also When is cox going to add the Greaseman to the Tampa station lineup?

I don't know what Kane does, but I hope he isn't an arch-reactionary like MJ's alter ego. I have no idea what the Greaseman would add to the mix. This guy's schtick goes back to WWDC with Howard Stern. That is really reaching back. I still contend that robojocks, VT'ing ,Tesh and satellite feeds are not the way to go. We need live local radio staffed by functioning adults who do not act like morons. But then to quote Dennis Miller-------"I could be wrong". I would like just one full service AC station live 24 /7 and you can put the noodniks wherever you want them.

Don't look for Greaseman ANYTIME soon in Tampa Bay. 102.5 is staffed properly in AM and PM drives and Grease wouldn't fit on any of the other Cox properties.

As far as MJ... it wouldn't surprise me. He'd finally get to focus exclusively on the afternoon talk show and Clear Channel gets to continue to move FLZ to a full fledged bland sounding "KISS" CHR. ...and about that board if indeed that's true... No doubt in my mind that MJ is comfortable behind it and has probably held off the techs in changing it.

It goes back a hell of a lot further than DC101. Try WAPE (690), which is why he's back in Jax in the first place. (And actually, it goes back a lot further than that. WAXC Rochester, NY, circa 1972.)

I heard the same thing that MJ will announce soon that he's ending his show on Dec 31 to concentrate on the Shnitt Show. That was being bantered about just last week in my sales department from an AE that has a tight contact over at CC Gandy. The question is, what will Bubba do since 75% of his material since he's come back has been about MJ??

Im sure Bubba will focus on Lex and Fairy or who ever else crosses his path the wrong way!

Like Marvin Boone? ;D

Kane currently does mornings in Washington, D.C. - you guessed it - on a CC-owned pop station. He'll probably be the next regionally-syndicated (read: less-costing) morning show following in the footsteps of Elvis Duran.

Bubba denied the rumor this morning. He said something about MJ resigning for three years.

Not saying I disagree with Bubba but when, after i posted this i was contacted by email from someone connected to CC tampa Programming!....I'm guessing this cause they had a CC domain name email address.......asking for the persons name who worked for them! Something about letting the cat out of the bag early....
Yeah, like Im going to release his or her name PLEASE!!!!

Why syndicate a morning show from Washington DC? Couldn't they syndicate with XL106.7's morning show instead?

Im sure they could....anyone is better than Mj or Secrest! But Kane is already known in this market.

MJ has talked about having a new logo designed for the show and putting up a non-CC-controlled website at radiomj.com. I can't imagine he would be talking about those things if he was going to give up the show any time soon. But who knows?

Maybe MJ goes to a different Tampa property? Can't imagine them giving him both drives on FLA, but maybe Mix?

Kane is more squarely aimed at the CHR demos and MJ pulls 25-54s. Plus they'd have syndication on both properties, which is their direction overall, and the local Mix morning show might be the casulaty.

I'm sure his wife is praying for something to come up so MJ can be out of the house in the mornings. She is so used to not having him around almost all day. She must be stressed out ... not for the less income coming into the house, but for having more of MJ around the house!

MJ moving to Mix.... I never thought of that but it's not a bad idea. I'd imagine he'd resist it like the non-team player he is but you make a great point. He would no doubt give a huge lift to 100.7 and 93.3 could probably hold it's own as the heritage CHR it is. The only negative I see is Tesh following the MJ show. Sure, MJ pulls the 25-54 demo better anyway than Kane but I just can't hear MJ carrying over listeners into Tesh. BUT... if they go back to 93.3 or 95.7 for music anyway you've still got em "in house". Not a bad idea and it would seem in theory on paper to help the numbers on both dial positions, plus eliminate the salary of one Nancy Alexander.... but I'm not sure they're smart enough to pull it off....

Well I know Kane and he ain't saying anything.......So who knows....Maybe MJ plays russian rollette with the morning show part timers and board op's.....That would be a ratings boost.....So who would you pick to do first?
