Here's my opinion on MKE Radio in the future: WMYX to go Rock or Variety Hits.WIIL will maybe upgrade to cover Milwaukee AND STILL will cover the Chicago area. 105.3 AND/OR 107.7 will maybe go CHR to go against KISS. 106.9 will go Rock as LAZER 107.WEXT upgrades.WKTI to stay Hot AC or go AC.EZ 92 upgrades.WLKG will upgrade but will still cover Lake Gevena.Help me with more on this one! I just can't imagine that Vic Eliason would ever sell WVCY off; unless it's doing much worse than I suspect... He'd be much more likely to dump TV-30.<P ID="signature">______________

Plus, it's my understanding CBS offered 107.7 "beaucoup" $$$ for their TV station back when channel 6 went Fox. A quick look at channel 30 will tell you what VCY said to that offer.

I suspect he'd be even more reluctant to sell his radio station.

(format change under VCY ownership? Pres. Bush would appoint Cindy Sheehan Secretary of Defense first...)

I'm no fan of the station or anything, but they get a lot of financial support so I doubt that will happen any time soon. I'm not saying it's impossible for them to go under, but I just don't think it's likely. I could be wrong of course. :)

WMYX changing? No way. The 'mix' moniker is worth alot to Entercom (WMYX was the first station in the country to call itself 'The Mix', and they used it as their trump card when Clear Channel tried to strong-arm them over the use of their 'Kiss' moniker.

WIIL can't upgrade. Plus, they target Kenosha and Lake Counties effectively. They're more of a Chicago-area station than a Milwaukee one.

Lazer isn't coming back. Active rock as a format is in a serious slump right now. And no way will Saga dilute their other two rock stations even further.

WKTI will always be WKTI. That station hasn't changed much in two decades.

WEZY can't upgrade.

Here are my thoughts on this (keep in mind that although I lived out of the market for a few years, most of my life was spent here)...

WMYX: Although this is possible, I would think it would be a few more books until it was decided. The station is doing well $$$ wise, so any major change would be slow to come.

WIIL: There may be a way to "optimize" the signal a bit for better coverage into MKE, but the current owners don't seem to want to compete here.

WFMR: Hey, anything's possible with this frequency!

WFZH/WVCY: 105.3 doesn't have the signal to compete with Kiss. WVCY won't sell.

WEXT: The move to Oak Creek was the last. It can't be upgraded any further, due to WTKM among other things.

WEZY: I'm not too familiar with the engineering aspect of EZ92, but I think it would be short-spaced to it's 92.5 sister in West Bend. No upgrade there.

WLKG: What's the point of upgrading if you're still going to serve Lake Geneva? Might as well take the money you'd spend on that and buy some new studio toys. That would be money better spent.

I don't even think they can upgrade! Isn't 96.1 sandwiched in with a DA setup so as not to touch WBBM-FM (and possibly WKLH, WRIT-FM & WERV-FM)?

Actually, when Tony Gazzana owned WEZY, he applied for 25KW. The problem was WMSE at 91.7.

You need to qualify that. Way too rhythmic leaning in your opinion.

The ratings say otherwise. Every time it was tweaked more rhythmic, the ratings went up. You may not like it, but Milwaukee says otherwise!!<P ID="signature">______________

OK, here's the story. After WMSE prevented WEZY from going 25KW, the woman who owned WMAD, 92.1, in Sun Praire, applied for 25KW. WEZY applied for 6KW non-directional. We were put on hold by the FCC until a decision was made on her 25KW increase. In the meantime, we wanted the 6KW increase, so we went directional. Two months later she was denied the increase and sold the station. We went 6KW non-directional at that time.

I believe if the tower were higher, they might be able to cover some additional sqare miles. With the bays being only around 384', according to the height based on conversion from m. to ft., it doesn't cover as much area as one with the height at the max. height (492' or 150m.) station would. It's amazing they don't want to compete in Milwaukee with their 50kw signal, but they move 104.7 north to compete in Milwaukee though.

I don't see Salem selling 105.3 either, unless they can afford to buy one of the other stronger signals. Plus they can't upgrade any further when Salem paid the owners of the 105.3 in Michigan to power down so their 105.3 could sign on. At least that's what Jeremy posted on here several months ago.

I believe they could upgrade. They would have to go severely directional with all the signal going south and a big null to the north & northwest.
