MLB FOX Saturday Baseball

MLB needs to really consider changing it around somehow. What I mean yesterday if your in the south your going to see the Braves and White Sox game. In the northeast your going to get the Yankees at Red Sox game. But if your in the south you can't see the other game at all not even on MLB Extra Innings. With the new FOX Sports 1 is FOX going to leave the game closest to your market on FOX broadcast thus putting the next popular game on FOX Sports 1. Or FOX needs to pick one game like TBS does each Sunday afternoon.

IIRC, the new TV deal removes the Fox exclusivity starting next season. The other regional games outside your local market will be available on MLB.TV/Extra Innings. ESPN remains exclusive on Sunday nights, though.

Then College Sports on Saturday's or NFL on Sunday's in the Afternoon but local crews don't call games on TV in the NFL in the regular season and should.

I don't think Fox broadcasting is going to have but 12 games next season.

Then what is MASN doing showing BAL@TEX (7:00p ET air time) tonight (Sun. 7/21), albeit 1 hour before NYY@BOS air time on ESPN?

I don't believe so. That alone would kill MLB.TV/EI, what with so many games on at the same time.

They're allowed to show Rangers home games on both teams' local stations, but that game is blacked out nationally, as is the ESPN game, on MLB.TV/EI.

I mean to where only TBS broadcasts the game not either teams playing sports network can show the game. Other match ups can go on as they aren't being aired on TBS.

So you're clarifying, iow?

Isn't TBS only getting a "coexist", where they aren't blacked out in the home markets anymore but the RSNs still have their own broadcasts?

From what I've seen, TBS gets blacked out here in Connecticut on Sunday, if the game involves the Yankees, Red Sox or Mets. That's likely due to YES, NESN and SNY or WPIX-TV/WCCT-TV, respectively.

I've always hated that Extra Innings didn't carry the other Fox games. I live in Philly and I am a Red Sox fan. There are many times that the Sox and Phillies are both playing on the Fox game and not playing each other. If I subscribe to Extra Innings they should let me choose the game I want. MLB should have been putting all games there and blacking out the game on WTXF. Wouldn't I see the same commercials from Fox.

With Sunday Ticket, the Eagles are on Fox and I'm usually watching the Pats on CBS if they're both playing at 1pm. With baseball it's only Fox.

The NFL tells the networks and DirecTV what they can and cannot broadcast. Roger Goodell has absolute control over the league's operations, with the team owners' approval. Kennesaw Molehill Selig doesn't have that power - the networks tell MLB what they'll air and whether it's blacked out or not. Fox paid for exclusivity (and TBS did not), but will be giving it up after this season. ESPN will keep its Sunday night exclusivity, except for Ranger home games that can only be broadcast in DFW and their opponents' local markets.

Aaaaand the reason for that is because it's so dang hot in Texas in July/August/September that a Sunday afternoon game would turn Rangers Ballpark in Arlington into a 49,000 person broiler. They're the only team grandfathered in that way. And even at that, yesterday's game started at 6:05 local time in deference to the NY/BOS ESPN game. So, still hot.

I live in Birmingham, Anytime that the Braves are on the Sunday TBS game, TBS is blacked out in our market and we get the FSS coverage with Chip Caray and Joe Simpson and/or Dale Murphy and/or Tom Glavine.

Also Houston,Altanta,Miami,Tampa Bay,Arizona and so on in Hot States should play Sunday Evenings to with an ESPN and ESPN2 Doubleheader. The problem with NHL is no local crews in regular season can call the Game on TV and that's not right.

There is no national interest in any of those teams, even when they are contending.

The Houston Astros, Tampa Bay Rays, Arizona Diamondbacks and Miami Marlins all play in domes or retractable-roof stadia, so it doesn't matter what time of day they play.
