MLB Looks to Sell One More TV Rights Package

It involves the LCS that Fox won`t carry beginning next season (they`ll have one LCS, rotating between the AL & NL) & ESPN & TBS are among the contenders, as is Comcast-owned OLN & even FX. However, in that LCS package, MLB`s trying to sell a new slate of weekly games in addition to an MLB-produced nightly highlights show (I think people`re just fine with "Baseball Tonight" ;)), I know MLB`s pleased with the increase in TV money that`s coming their way, but I hope they`re not spreading themselves too thin! http://www.mediaweek.com/mw/news/recent_display.jsp?vnu_content_id=1002840062

FX, ABC, NBC, or maybe the new CW.

I knew MLB had a weird plan with this deal.

They're MLB they can pretty much do whatever they want.

I personally hope NBC or ABC will find a way to get it. I don't want them shut out

of baseball for a full decade.

It would be unfair if ESPN or TBS gets it because they already have enough in my eyes.
 
I doubt NBC will make a run for the LCS deal, especially since NBC got back with the NFL. If ESPN gets it however, maybe ABC lets their not-so-little brother put a few of those telecasts on the broadcast net, like the 1st, 5th & 7th games? I strongly doubt there`re any MLB fans at CW. ;) Hopefully, there`ll be no future lockouts/strikes that`ll derail the gains MLB`s made (TV ratings, attendance, etc.) !
 
OLN is not being considered because they cannot deliver the programming in HD, which is a requirement of the bidding process. I'm sure Comcast could fix that by purchasing the equipment and throwing OLN-HD on all of their digital systems, but they wouldn't do it to get the NFL contract, so I don't see them doing it for baseball.

Look for ESPN to ultimately pick up the package, with the possibility of them placing the LCS games on ABC (which ESPN now controls the sports programming of 100%).
 
I Would think twice about letting the network that shows more Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees than FOX to get another crack at it.

Besides ABC needs something after losing the NFL and MLB is it.

I wouldn't even be suprised if the CW gets it either (I wasn't joking on that part.)

Also isn't ESPN's Thursday and Daygame rights suppose to expire.

I'm certain Comcast will ultimately get a hold of them.

No, they renewed the rights to a one day a week and Monday Nights before this season as a seperate package than the Sunday-Wednesday-Thursday package. All of ESPN's current deals run thru at least 2010.

I'm certain Comcast will not hold the national rights to any major sport at any point in the near future (and don't start about the NHL, a league that averages a .1 isn't major)
