Mmorristown ratings

Anybody look at the Morristown book that came out today? What kind of screwy stuff is going on there? WDHA and WMTR dropped like rocks. WQXR too. WOR way up. What the heck happened?

Jack FM Morristown ratings

This may be the first book anywhere I seen WCBS Jack FM with respectable ratings beating both local WDHA and WMTR. This seems to be the only market where 101.1 are doing well. I sure Joel Hollander may site this as a excuse why Jack should stay on the air.

Books in small markets (or subsets of larger markets) like Morristown tend to have weird fluctuations due to limited diary distribution.
Just a few entries can really make things seem skewed.

Jack Ny has the feel of a small market station, I would expect them to do well in markets where their sound is wanted.

[EDIT] They need to play the true hits of the 70's, 80's and 90's, probably 65-70% rhythmic, very upbeat sounding but not playing a lot of the rap/hip hop hits.

Ex. Hour

Dazz Band let it whip
Outfield Your love
Gnarls Barkely Crazy
King Floyd Groove me
Def Lepard Pour some sugar
Outkast Hey ya
Prince 1999
Brian Adams Run to you
Madonna like a prayer
Greenday When I come around
Earth Wind and Fire September
Soft Cell Tainted love
Fray Cable Car

Not entirely...outside of AM Drive there isn't ALL THAT MUCH "chatter/banter" that takes place on 'DHA. Sure people liked the forementioned jocks but let's be honest 'DHA and MOST Rock Stations are music intensive and don't thrive on pointless chit chat which is ALL that Matt & Fuzz seemed to do on a 2nd grade level too I might add. There are definitely some new voices on the station which in the end will prove to be a good thing. Change can be good and sounds as though it might play out that way with this "New Staff" that they have in place. What people need to do is embrace change whether they like it or not because rambling on and yearning for the return of Terrie Carr, Rob Moorhead, or Matt & Fuzz is redundant and boring and not to mention un realistic.

The Ratings def seem to be a fluke but I wouldn't jump to say it's because the jocks are gone...could it be the new PD making non-sensical changes to a functional format? I'm thinking Yes................

without a strong morning show the rest of the day will fall apart. and if people want music thats what i-pods and satillite radio are doing. regular radio's only way to survive will be having entertaining local jocks. hearing jim m talk about the boston red sox and tony page saying "when i was in long is" isnt cutting it. so i disagree you do need good voices dha had them there gone and so are the listeners

???Every single post of radroad is against Greater Media (WMMR, WRAT, WDHA). Sounds like a former employee.

I'm thinking you're right...

Also, I wasn't inferring that knowledgeable yet respected and entertaining jocks weren't necessary as a formula to succeed but from what I have heard and read on the website profiles, most of these jocks are new to the 'DHA scene so to build a fan base obviously takes some time. For the most part, anyone at this point complaining about "jim m" is more than likely a disgruntled Matt and Fuzz fan... apparently they DID have a few :-\

Rad Road a disgruntled employee?, maybe they are, but WDHA really does sound BAD.
Yes, AT TIMES, new voices can be a good thing- IF THEY ARE TALENTED! WDHA sounds Unfocused, unpolished and completely college-esque. It's a shame really. With the dissolution of 92.3 this could have been their time to really shine. Heck, there is not much else out there. It also seemed that their previous personalities seemed much more entrenched in the local community. Very important for a local station. New York has a great opportunity to come in and totally take over the Jersey suburbs. Don't be surprised if the PLJ's and Q's and even Free-FM's become much more visable.

hahaha a disgruntled employee??? well that part is right but not for dha more for a certain shipping company . if i did work there it would sound a hell of alot better and all i ever did was college radio in west va. maybe you guys a current disgruntled employees ? cause that station has drastcally changed in the last year and not for the better. and the ratings show it.

One thing no one has discussed is MONEY. DHA/MTR are small stations in a big pond. They can't generate the type of dollars necessary to afford very experienced talent. THey cant get those NY spot rates, but are essentialy in the NY Metro. Have you looked at the price of real estate in that area? You need to be an hour north or west of the station to be able to afford anything liveable on what GM can pay. Thats why people leave there, not because its such a bad place to work,, its just that we like to eat too. Just a thought.

EXCELSIOR!!!

I think it's odd that almost all of the top rated stations are from NYC, 25 miles away.

In Monmouth/Ocean, the Atlantic City stations, less than 20 miles away barely register a blip.

Monmouth gets most of the diaries and you cannot recieve any AC stations there, at all. Philly covers the market better but still they don't really show up either.

even if some of the jocks are new they should still be somewhat entertaing to listen to. i hope to god curtis kay is just on vacation cause that girl is putting me to sleep at my desk! and hasent "jim m" been there for many years???how is he new? lets all face some facts that station is a shell of what it once was and im about to climb on the roof of my building to hook up a satillite radio because dha is the only station that comes in at the hub!

Well, the thing you have to remember is that the NYC signals for the most part are not only protected, but have much stronger signals than most of the stations in Atlantic City. I would kill to get some of the stations in the AC market loud and clear (like WJSE, WVLT, and some of their talk radio stations) and I'm sure many others would as well. Unfortunately, the stations we do receive are too similar to what we already have in Ocean and points north - hence the reason why they don't really show up in the ratings.
