Why are Y-100's listeners going to MMR, up one full point. I see no similarity between MMR and Y-100, format, music, presentation or jock wise. But...it seems the displaced Y-100 audiance is going to MMR, that is the ones that are not switching to satellite or cable offerings. Or is it just P&S that are grabbing that extra share. I would of bet the house on YSP going through the roof.

You see no similarity between MMR and Y=100's personalities? Preston & Steve is the big obvious draw, but don't forget Matt Cord. Pierre is friendly to all music audiences. They see him at ALL the shows and concerts. He lives the music, and talks about it and plays it as much as he can get away with. They are a bunch of well known and liked personalities who have credibility with radio listeners across format lines. The YSP airstaff are a bunch of goofy shotgun, one trick pony DJs. They are fake, phoney, low brow with no finess or intelligence, mot cultured communicators. They're more like trained monkeys. MMR is a much funnier, and looser station. They don't take themselves too seriously they have fun with each other and the listener and they are relatable. Evidently. former Y100 listeners relate to that approach, and are put off by that pack of whacky DJs at YSP
 
I think it's the jocks. You've got the P&S squad and Matt Cord. It's nice to hear familiar voices and you've got a decent shot of hearing some alternative from time to time. That's the best you can do in Philly. I like alternative, especially 90's alternative, and I'm taking what I can get.

This is an interesting on-going argument. I'm not sure I understand why anyone thought Y100's listeners would go to WYSP instead of WMMR. Though hardly a replacement for Y100, MMR seems more musically suited to their audience than WYSP. And without Stern, I'm not sure I understand what's so great about WYSP at all. In a year's time, I wouldn't be the tiniest bit surprised to see WMMR go through the roof while WYSP ceases to exist in its current form.

I suspect WYSP could just as well ride on the fact that they have Eagles football coverage, but well, that's about it. Maybe they should bring aboard Phillies baseball as well next season just so they can claim that one can listen to the games in FM stereo...otoh, maybe not...

So maybe, WYSP will become an FM Hot Talker next year?

WOW!!
Do you work for WMMR?, You seem to always trash WYSP.
Also keep in mind that WMMR picked up the Grape Street Pub local show that Y100 use to host, It seems to me that YSP really missed some golden opportunities to grab some of the Y100 audience.

Yeah, what he said. To that I want to add that I see Your Station in Philadelphia(YSP) going more metalish. Besides, WYSP already tried the hot talk schtick. ( Remember when it was someone's bright idea to put Letterman on at 11:30 ) Death to Hot talk.

Sample 2 PM hour today:YSP - AC/DC, New Papa Roach, Smashing Pumpkins, New Audio Slave, Ozzy, New CKY, Alice in Chains, Foo Fighters, Weezer, Metallica, Skid Row, STP, Got You Where I Want You-forgot artist 90's tune.MMR - Doors, Hendrix, Velvet Revolver, Pink Floyd, Guns and Roses, Van Halen, Pearl Jam, Neil Young.I do not support one station over the other, BUT, being a person that likes rock music, both old and current, I prefer the YSP music lineup over MMR's anyday. Couzin Ed has been away a few days so its been more enjoyable to listen to YSP, this is just a sample I took of both stations, which do you prefer. I am sure P&S gave MMR the boost, nothing else. On another note, both stations will be around playing rock music for a long time, they will tinker the formats slightly and nothing more. they will go up and go down, but this city can and will support both stations, they have been at each others throats for over 30 years, why stop now...

I don't work there, but I admit to being biased. I know several of their staff, but before I ever met anybody from there several years ago, I had already been a fan for many years. I have always liked them better than YSP. I wish I could like YSP more, because it would give me more choices. I mostly filp between MMR, MGK and Y-1...oops, and my CD changer. Don't get me wrong, MMR could be A LOT better, but if you don't listen too much, it sounds better, except in the morning when P&S are on, because they don't play that much music. Mmmm, I don't think I said that quite right. What I mean is MMR's music is too tight, I like the mix, but not the repetition. P&S don't play much music, so it is less of a problem and I think they are funny. Don't ask me why I typed all that out instead of editing. I just can't stop myself. I used to be a writer and got paid by the word.

I have noticed that YSP has ditched the classic rock that they playing from time to time and I am enjoying it..

It's the ex-Y100 jocks, partly. A little nostalgia to remind us of the way things were. Also, though YSP plays more "new rock", MMR plays more "alt". I'd rather sit through six boring classic rock songs to hear two alternative tunes by Oasis and The Cure rather than listen to an hour of new music by bands like Papa Roach and 3 Doors Down. Not that anything is wrong with those bands. I just prefer alternative music, and I'll take what little I can get until I get to work, where I stream alt radio from Phoenix.
