WJZZ, in attempt to shore up its ratings, has hired Moby to do its morning show.
According to general manager Wayne Brown, "We did extensive focus groups, and people associate jazz with sweetness. And smooth jazz is really a fresh version of jazz. Upon reviewing the findings, we immediately thought of Moby and knew his 'mornin, peaches' would be a great way to help people associate those attributes with WJZZ."
Mr. Brown added that WJZZ is making a big push for non-traditional revenue. "Moby has a penchant for doing grand openings of certain little gentlemen's shops, if you know what I mean. The potential for dollars from remotes is huge."
In an ironic twist, current WJZZ morning host Greg Fitzgerald has been named to take over Moby's country show in several small markets in the Southeast. Mr. Fitzgerald commented, "I drive a pickup truck so I see this as the logical next step in my career."
Radio One continues to deny the persistent rumor that Neil Millman has been hired as program director of WJZZ.
