Mod Monitor & Remote Control Wanted

I'm still working on building the on-campus student radio station for the school district I work far and I'm trying to locate a good, operated, inexpensive (read that as CHEAP) or free AM modulation monitor for them. I need something that work in the AM extended band reliably. Ideally looking for a newer wide-band Belar or even an original Motorola C-QUAM 1310 unit since it has a built-in RF amp for off-air monitoring. Extremely limited budget but the district can supply a tax deductible receipt for any donated gear to help the cause.

I'm also looking for either a telco telemetry remote control or telco modules to convert a donated Moseley MRC-1 to full telco telemetry as the unit we have is telco and radio link.

Any leads or assistance are most appreciated.

Bill, a junque analog oscilloscope makes a perfectly good AM mod monitor... and the kids can learn something from it in the process. You might find someone who will give you an old bulky one.

That's a good thought and since it's hoped that the station will be folded into the school curriculum that will probably fall into the electronics courses. You'd be hard pressed to see a o'scope in a studio with on-air talent though.

The idea is/was to dress their studios with actual, albeit older equipment that would be likely found in a typical broadcast environment. While I had received a bunch of donated gear from several local broadcast group operations there were some things nobody had extras of or what they had was just too old to be serviceable.

Sadly I've also been contacted by a few folks thinking they can offload some dirt old equipment for the cost of new gear - it's really too bad there are bad apples like that in the engineering community who would think they could take advantage of a K-12 school district.

Every AM I worked for (and it's been a while) had a scope beside the transmitter showing a mod envelope. When the studios were colocated, it was in the jock's view. What they made of it, other than the ones who asked, is up to conjecture.
I don't fault those who overprice what they're selling in any venue - if they can get somebody to pay that much for whatever, more pwoer tot hem. I usually just pass.

At the AMs I have engineered I have never seen a scope used in view of the talent (nor have I seen anybody other than the engineering staff who would have understood what they would have been looking at).

While I usually don't care when people ask excessive pricing for gear (especially since, as you stated, you can just pass it by) I sort of resented the fact that I made no secret that it was for a school district with little budget and they seemed they went out of their way to ask what I would consider an "unreasonable" price for a piece of equipment that was otherwise rotting away in their transmitter shack.
