Modern Rock currents for April 2009

Here are a few of the currents for April 2009 that your local modern rock is (hopefully) spinning:

Silversun Pickups - Panic Switch (blazing up the charts, currently at #9! ;D )
Green Day - Know Your Enemy (just released to radio)
Kings of Leon - Notion
Kings of Leon - Use Somebody (another #1 for these guys!)
Franz Ferdinand - No You Girls
Audrye Sessions - Turn Me Off
Ida Maria - I Like You So Much Better When You're Naked (my current fave)
Metric - Help, I'm alive
Depeche Mode - Wrong
Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Zero
Blue October - Dirt Room
U2 - Magnificent (like this one much better than Get On Your Boots)
Manchester Orchestra - I've Got Friends
Glasvegas - Geraldine
Death Cab For Cutie - Grapevine Fires
311 - Hey You

Most of these tracks I know for a fact right now are currents on WFNX Boston, WBRU Providence, and FM 104 One WURH Hartford.

Silversun Pickups - Panic Switch Great track. The album as a whole is solid but but a little similar sounding after a while

Green Day - Know Your Enemy My favorite of the bunch so far. You KNOW this song is going to either debut at #1 or be close.

Kings Of Leon - Notion/Use Somebody I think we all have an opinion of Use Somebody at this point (seeing as it's #1). Notion is the standard follow-up, should do just as well.

Franz Ferdinand - No You GirlsMy favorite track off the new album but, sadly, I think they'll always be known for "Take Me Out" as they have just a little bit too many quirks, turns to be fully embraced by the mainstream.

Audrye SessionsHaven't heard yet...

Ida Maria - I Like You So Much Better When You're NakedReally fun song. Saw them open for Glasvegas a few weeks back, should do decently well (maybe even cross over to the Active-leaning stations?)

Yeah Yeah Yeahs - ZeroAnother great song from a great album. I don't think they'll ever have a platinum record again but this has a great chance at crossover.

Blue October - Dirt RoomDoesn't feel like a hit at all. I think this is only getting spins because it's the follow-up to "Hate Me" and "Into The Ocean"

U2 - MagnificentOne of the best tracks off the new album, love it!

Manchester OrchestraI'm really pulling for these guys. RXP here in NYC (the lets-throw-everything-on-the-wall-and-see-what-sticks rock station we have in the city) has been playing this a lot. Good song from a great band.

Glasvegas - GeraldineI like it, saw them a few weeks ago (as mentioned above). However, I think they'll just be another in the long line of bands from Europe that the American audience won't embrace on a large scale.

DCFC - Grapevine FiresSolid song from a great album. Since it's a single from an album already a year-old I don't expect much from it (as a side note, it's a really dark song if you pay attention the lyrics).

311 - Hey YouSounds like your standard lead-off single for 311. I'm a big fan but I feel like it'll peak within top 10 (not top 5)

I agree with all except for the Franz. I feel this new album has wide appeal and is dance-heavy like the first album was. Yet I feel while 2005's "You Could Have It So Much Better" was a great record, it was not as big of a hit as the first record because of less Indie-Dance influences...I think the new record returns to that sound that initially made them big on the first record and could definitely help this time around.

Yeah, I've actually liked each of their releases more than the previous one. So I think Tonight might be my favorite.

BTW, did you used to work at (er, I guess volunteer at) ICB in Ithaca?

Same here! I honestly think this record is amazing. And no, can't say I've volunteered or even been anywhere in Ithaca.. I do, however have a 90's alternative show on WBIM-FM on Sunday nites 6-8pm...*shameless plug* http://www.bridgew.edu/wbim ;D :D
