Modern Rock Currents for June 2009

Here's some of the adds that your Modern Rock Alternative is hopefully spinning in their currents:

Rancid - Last One to Die (great song by one of my favorite punk bands)

Cage the Elephant - Ain't No Rest for the Wicked (can you say HUGE? #5 and climbing. Reminds of G. Love & Special Sauce with some Sublime mixed in)

Phoenix - 1901 (great electro/dance band from France, this track is catchy and you can dance to it. my current fave)

The Airborne Toxic Event - Wishing Well (decent follow up to "Sometime Around Midnight")

Placebo - For What It's Worth

Green Day - 21 Guns
(slower, less rocking then "Know Your Enemy." also appearing on the AAA charts)

The Killers - A Dustland Fairytale

Modest Mouse - Satellite Skin

Passion Pit - The Reeling

Dave Matthews Band - Funny How It Is
(not a DMB fan. seems to be doing ok, debuted at #22 on the MR charts)

Taking Back Sunday - Sink Into Me

Grizzly Bear - Two Weeks
(this indie band from Brooklyn is the one to watch, already been on Conan and Letterman and this song is catchy as hell)

It's great to see Phoenix and Passion Pit on this list. So far I've only seen them on mtvU and heard them on my local college station.

I was depending on R&R for my currents, but sadly that is a thing of the past now...

Yup, Phoenix is getting some good rotation on WFNX, and Passion Pit has been getting some as well. I believe WBRU has picked up these bands too.

I've heard "Gasoline" by The Airborne Toxic Event which I thought was the followup to "...Midnight".

Everything I've heard from Grizzly Bear has stunk the joint up, I hope this new one is as good as you say.
I too am not a DMB fan, but this new one is quite good.
Rancid is hot, to the point and short.
I'm not locked into the Cage...the Elephant as it seems many others are. Oh well.
The Killers song is mediocre next to their previous big hits.
I like "Know Your Enemy" more then "21 Guns". Green Day shoots the "21 Guns" ok, however as I heard it on a Hot AC station too.
