Since the dark days of last fall, when K-Rock was playing songs about “panty-droppers” and WRXP was playing “Rock ‘n’ Roll Fantasy”, there has been a marked improvement in the quality of rock played on these two stations.
WRXP seems to have been successfully treated for the musical schizophrenia from which it was suffering since its inception – gone are the transitions from MGMT to Foreigner. The station still leans heavy on the Bruce, but at least when they do play some Springsteen, they play something deep that I haven’t had pounded into my ears since birth. The morning show is still garbage. Pinnfield is a snob and that southerner sounds whiney and obnoxious, I wish she would just go away. Together, their interviews are dreadfully dry, which is a shame because they talk to some cool bands. Maybe I’m just not geeky enough to get it. Other than that, the rest of the day is solid. Punk lunch is cool and Nik Carter sounds as good as he has since the 90’s. Big things in 2010 for RXP.
K-Rock has improved as well. It backed off from the Nu-Metal it inexplicably added in November. The playlist is familiar, and could benefit from a smattering of new songs, but the last time they did that, Three Days Grace appeared, a fact which makes me hope they make no changes rather than bad changes. Here’s to hoping the commercial breaks get longer in 2010.
Overall, both stations are light years from where they were three months ago. Keep up the good work, and thanks "for keeping the scene alive!”
