Actually, the station isn't licensed at all. It is testing under a temporary authorization from the FCC with the provisional callsign of KMPH-AM, with reduced power. And when the FCC finally issues a license, it will be as KMPH ... unless Pappas asks to move the KTRB calls to 840 and makes the 860 station KMPH in San Francisco.
Here's an interesting little excerpt from the FCC's original authorization for the 840 station, from last September:
PROGRAM TESTS FOR KPMP, MODESTO, CA, BMP-20050118AKA, WILL NOT COMMENCE ON 840 KHZ WITH THE FACILITIED SPECIFIED HEREIN UNTIL PROGRAM TESTS FOR KTRB COMMENCES ON 860 KHZ WITH THE FACILITIES AUTHORIZED IN BMP-20050318ACJ AND A LICENSE WILL NOT BE GRANTED FOR KPMP UNTIL A LICENSE IS GRANTED FOR KTRB ON 860 KHZ.
I'm thinking we may hear them fire up *at least* the KTRB/860 daytime transmitter near Novato fairly soon...
