For those of us who know that Entercom (at least the Boston incarnation of same) is run by skanks, this 'public flogging' serves a dual purpose: One, to inform the listening audience of what's going on so that we can make informed decisions about continuing to patronize their stations. And two, to effectively bring down the morale within the employee ranks at Entercom. Those people read the newspaper and go on the Internet. They read the comments in the Herald and here on this message board. You think the worker bees at Entercom come into work with smiles on their face? Or do you think they relish the prospect of answering the question, "So!!! Where do you work?" when they meet someone at a gathering? Do you think these people are PROUD to say they work at Entercom? Like that stupid furniture salesman said on those lame TV commercials: I DOUBT it!!!

The most stellar example to date of Entercom Derangement Syndrome.

You think the worker bees at Entercom care what you post on a message board? You think they spend every waking moment chewing their fingernails and using box after box of tissues to wipe the tears from their eyes because you say it's a rotten place to work (as if you'd know)?

Lastly: You think the way Moe was fired was an isolated incident which occurs only at Entercom stations? Good grief, man...here's a dime...buy some perspective.

= rationalizing.

Yes, keep rationalizing that potential sponsors don't take stock of this avalanche of negatavism toward Entercom. Keep rationalizing that it's just me and my message.

I'm not the one with 'dumber' in my screen name.

"Avalanche of negativism?" Thanks...I needed a good laugh. The only "avalanche" is right here on this board...and thinking that potential sponsors check this web site first before making their buys belongs in the Sunday comics section.

Yes, it IS just you and your fellow EDS sufferers.

Just heard the news...I loved his work with Peter Blute.

Rest in peace, my friend.

Are you mixing him up with Andy Moes?

Actually, I used to work there... It IS a rotten place to work.

>>Rest in peace, my friend.

Maybe he's doing what the folks on Seattle's Blather Watch blog do; when a talk host (or other
air personality) is fired, they say "R.I.P." So if, for example, WTKK were to get rid of McPhee,
they would say "Michele McPhee 2007-08, R.I.P." Meaning their job won't be down for bkfst.

As for Andy Moes, I think he passed in in '99 or '00 or something...I was heading in to Brookline
to do an interview on cable TV (with Dan Berman, "Time To Review") and found out online
that Andy had passed in his sleep at 50.

The trouble with Entercom's handling of WRKO over the past 5 years is that the mindset that has taken hold. These don't seem to be radio people who want to achieve success through building the best station possible. They are running the place like money people who want to cut every corner en route to profitability. Success is having big numbers on the bottom line and nothing more.

Now, you can argue that this is the ultimate goal of every business and you'd have a great point. But, radio has historically had a dimension of artistry (for lack of a better word) too. The best commercial radio stations (as we've known them) were not simply operated like a bank branch with an emotionless concentration on dollars and cents. Yes, by all means the goal has always been to do well and make money. But also to be the purveyor of great radio. To have your station be the one with the most listeners.

We've gotten away from that for the most part and few station provide a better example of this than WRKO. This was an excellent talk station in 1998, which has been transformed into a disaster by 2008. Now, it's a shell of its former self. What do they have now? Howie Carr (barely) and syndicated fare. Oh yeah, and the Red Sox who were only put there to cushion the bottom line and who don't really fit the format. You can argue with me about the bottom line all you want. But the station has become no better than some small to midsize market talker that you'd hear in a place like Albany or Rochester or Omaha. In fact, WGY in Albany sounds more professional than WRKO does these days. THAT shows just how badly Entercom has mismanaged and screwed up a previously successful product. The PD should be so fired as to never work in radio again. Yet, at Entercom, such performance merits a promotion.

So, they can make a few more bucks with snake oil infomercials than they can with live local talk. But at what ultimate cost? Sure, Entercom will get a check, but no one will listen to that crap. And the station's prestige sinks deeper into a hole. Whatever happened to taking pride in your product? The consistency is gone. Even if only a few people listened to Moe Lauzier on weekends, his show was a consistent part of the format. Clearly, the lunkheads at Entercom don't care and that's why their management of WRKO is so often criticized here - and rightfully so. It was a far better place under previous owners like American Radio Systems and (briefly) CBS.

If you still don't get what I'm saying here, compare how WRKO is run with how WBZ is run and it will become much more clear. If they keep it up, WRKO will end up with a format of infomercials, a disgruntled Howie Carr and the Red Sox. Nice work.

BRNout is right on target.

Radio in general has been a victim of it's past success. In the late 80's radio had hit a high point and this attracted the big corporations. The corporations, who really have no interest in radio; just the money it can produce, bought out most of the little guys and way over paid for what the stations were worth. The only way for them to make money was to fill the shows with commercials, and get rid of the high paid talent. What we're left with is the current mess.

RKO is right now the very worst of the bunch and it hurts to see this happen to what was once a wonderful station.

I hope Jason and Julie pay big time for what they've done here somewhere down the line, but it will probably never happen. Corporations seem to love soul less workers and these two seem to fit the bill big time. I don't know how either one of them can look into a mirror and not be disgusted by what they see.

Here's Moe's sign off.

A regular on my Howie Carr ping list excerpted part of a post from rec.radio.shortwave explaining
one reason why Mo was let go: Entercom's "black Friday", $10m loss.

"The immediate down-whacking that followed included a few air established personalities who’d been with their respective stations for over 20 years. Old and in the way. Seniority and being established in a market is so over-rated...You have major radio chains gutting their morning shows, eliminating sidekicks, writers, producers, characters - the support team that helps make a morning show entertaining and memorable."
