MoJo 9.5.0. Review

The format is not solid and done very sloppy. They are playing stuff that still identifies them as Talkradio 9 fifty! The morning slot now makes sense you see rob the people of the news all you can then they will go to 740. Thus no Fox news in morning drive. HMMMMMMM! Ktrh has a news wheel then. How strange.
The legal id sounds really sloppy and the board op if any mis times every top of the hour. That should be the easiest task of all if your show is on the bird. Mancow may work in Chicago but Houston not so sure. He is a great talent but man talk here not so much so. Well in conclusion CC Houston has effectivly committed murder on the dial 950 KPRC.

I am going to go outside and play in the snow. It is obvious MoJo is having a effect on me a woman in her mid 20's lonley. Ohhh excuse me boys!

Truthsayer, you sound like someone who is a pro. You know the tech stuff, while I an average, avid listener have pretty much the same take. The programs yesterday left me cold. I'm told they are not turning their backs on women, but.........I think they have. I thought months ago they were trying to kill 950 to boost 740. Does anyone think that's a good take? Anyway, Truthsayer, can I play outside with you?

Yes, it's sloppy. Just like every other format launch outside of NY and LA. It will take 21 days before firming up. It might have six months to prove itself or be chucked onto the "well we tried" stack.

Mancow is a major talent trying to recreate himself for talk radio. He was recently a guest on the Roe Conn Show on WLS AM.
Eric actually leans very conservative in his personal life. The birth of his twins have soften him quite a bit. I'm waiting to hear him jump ship and try to be the next Sean Hannity. It appears all you have to do is apologize for your former bad ways and all is forgiven.

Enjoy your outside play. It's nice to see the sun again!

I went outside to play in the snow and got burnt.

Dont forget when Talkradio 950 was launched in 2000 they had man talk but it failed. Ken Charles realized after 9/11/01 it was time to modify. My guess in six months they will take any listener who will give them 7 minutes. The format has another huge problem here. The high volume of immagrants who dont know a lick of English greatly dims the demos. Most men get a little of it then tire and go elsewhere. Sounds like a man too me.

I do want to say I like W&J they are class a men who I am afraid have made a 2nd pack with the devil.
I like what they do alot, but it will not work on The 9 5 0. I was told walton's son worked at The 9 5 0 and was one of the cutbacks. That's sad a son takes a hit so his father can work. Makes you think!

After anxiously waiting for the weekend line up, I am disappointed. Most of the shows I liked and listened to are GONE. A few do remain however. Both 950 and 740's weekend schedule has been revised alot. The whole saturday line up on 950 is changed. On 950 Mike Mc Connell-gone ( I didn't like him anyway!) but I did like Rusty Humphreys. I was also liking Louis La porte's show. On sunday I loved Hearsay and catching up on Glenn Beck's show. I guess since thay dumped him totally, they'd dump his weekend show. On 740 Chris Tritico-gone, Kim Komando-gone, Bill Handel-gone. There seems to be lots of financial shows. I'm kinda bummed and will re-aquaint myself with the shows on the other stations. Hummmm, I wonder what kind of lineup 1070 has. I don't think I've ever listened to them on the weekend.

I have been told, what I like is not what "Houston" likes. I'm wondering if what I don't like is what "houston" wants! ???

OK, I tuned in off and on for the last 3 days. W&J are as horrendous here as they were everywhere else. There is not one current and former KPRC listener (former listeners are building rapidly I suspect) that would stay tuned into that garbage. IT'S NOT THEIR DEMO! (age or intellectually). Unless they spend 6 figures per month for the next 6 months on TV, Billboard and Print advertising to attract new and different listeners, this thing will derail rapidly. Wait until 1560 signs on with a much better lineup going after the same audience. As to the rest of my review, I did get a chance to hear Phil Hendrie last night for a few minutes, but as soon as I got home from a late night at work, out of the car and office and no radio listening at home. He's great, but is lost at night. Tried to hear some of the afternoon programming, but they had W&J on in place of Baker/Hunt. Apparantly that show is not ready for air. BAD MOVE launching without all the pieces. As I opined in other threads, this Mojo 9-5-0 could become Houston's biggest media train wreck in this market's history. As someone that buys time for some close friends and clients KPRC is one station that I will never look at as long as they are in this format. I predict a can of nothing coming in the ratings department in all key demos. Will this disaster finally end the Michael Berry experience?

1560? Is this something new? Does anyone know when it will start? I am very interested!!! I think lots of poeple will be.

It may be 1590. What ever the frequency it's KILE soon to be KGOW.

No you were right, adguy. It is 1560 KILE..soon to be KGOW. There is another thread completely dedicated to the goings on at KILE. They begin their new format entitled "The Game" on Aug. 20.

Mojo 950, Morons Aplenty!

I'm sure he could find another gig ringing the bell in a tower or maybe since he's old enough, he could join the military and support the war that his father openly endorsed. :-[

CC has so much expertise with train wrecks, they could consult for Bin Laden. Not surprised they didn't have all their programming ready, but in the past CC has slipped more launches than NASA. :D
But really, I don't see AM listeners embracing the morning show. CC loves conservative programming/brainwashing. I don't think CC Houston cares about ratings or criticism or listeners or shareholders. As long as w&j and a few select individuals can get syndication fees and they collect their large paychecks, they'll stay until they are removed. You had Walton's son working at the station too....Geez....
The whole station needs to be purged from the top down. CC Houston gives the impression of some kind of Louisiana Mafia situation. Bad hair and all.

So sayeth Rex.

Very funny!

It's like saying McDonalds doesn't care about fries!
Look, each market runs itself and reports up. Sometimes a good idea happens and it get syndicated, sometimes you get a McRib.
I doubt if anyone in San Antonio even knows the new line-up. Consider Clear Channel a big Irish Catholic family. If the child lives, they'll pay attention. If it dies from an early infection, there will be another. If you're that upset, turn it off and revisit in a few weeks when it has jelled.

I remember when ABC changed WZZN in Chicago from alternative rock to "True Oldies." They had strip bar spots running over the middle of Beach Boys songs. That was a train wreck. This is a work in progress. It's summer, the perfect time to launch and work out the bugs.
By the way.... agencies don't buy new formats. They want ratings first.

I tried checking out the 9-5-0 on Thursday afternoon. I just didn't get the humor of either W&J or Mancow. I have enjoyed Mancow's reports on Fox News Channel over the years, but his bits on the woman who "cooked" her kids when she left them in the car were too much for me. I know he was trying to show how stupid it is to lock your kids in a hot car, but it was just too much IMO. And the promos running for the Baker and Hunt show did nothing to make me want to tune in. I like Chris Baker, but I don't think I will be able to listen to this show when it begins in a week or so.

Thought I would review after listening off and on for a week. W&J: Worse on Friday and deteriorating day-by-day if that's even possible. Mancow is not that bad, but 9-5-0's problem is that there will be no lead-in when W&J chase off 100% of KPRC's current morning listeners. Cutting Hannity off at the last hour is another move that is part of this abortion called Mojo 950. If they were smart, they would move Savage up, slot in Phil Hendrie to fall in Drive or put Hendrie live midday. Just trying to give some programming advice as the powers at be prepare their attempt to revive KPRC when it crashes and burns in the next couple of months. This is going to be very ugly. My smart dog could program a station better than this.

I may put in an application to 9-5-0- MOJO. I'm nobody and I could have done better. Hey adguy, I'll keep your dog in mind!!

My Niece has a hamster that is pissed off too. He told her that he could program better than the current management. I would not apply there. They are a bunch of Pythons ready to put a strangle hold on you til to are dead! Example: look what they are doing to the 9-5-0!

I tuned in this morning and found a finacial show on both 9-5-0 & 740. Maybe it's just me, I'm not radio pro, but that is DUMB! The only thing I see on the weekends I want to hear is Gardenline and Michael Garfield. Oh yea, I forgot, I was told what I want to hear is not what "Houston" wants to hear. Well I guess I'll have to wait and see if that's true.

Weekends I used to listen to KTRH because they had the home improvement show with Tom Tynan and occasionally I caught part of the gardening show and it seemed like there were plenty of callers with both shows.

What is amazing to me is how clueless the present Houston CC management must be. You wouldn't run a small market station this way - well, maybe someone would.

By the way, on KPRC's web site they have the following statement regarding W&J -

Will I like Walton & Johnson? Probably not, unless you like to have fun. Fuddy-duds need not apply. This is your daily news, but this is comedy, wit, biting sarcasm, social commentary, and a touch of irreverence all rolled into a morning show. Make a comment HERE.

Well, the "HERE" link doesn't work - probably disabled from all the comments already made - or more likely never enabled because CC doesn't care.

Checked with my dog. She would rather heard sheep than program 9-5-0. She believes working for a station like that is an insult to her intelligence. She told me that we should check with the ant bed in the backyard. Maybe a group of ants can pull collectively to provide a bit more brainpower over current management to fix KPRC.

The financial show probably pays around $1500 for an hour of time on KPRC & $2000 on KTRH. With the money CC is sure to lose at KPRC they need to whore every bit of weekend time possibly available to produce revenue. Unfortunately that will mean preemptions or cancellation of long-time standbys like Gardenline. Garfield should be relegated to weekends. That's where he belongs talking about tech. A weekday show is too much for that guy. He's no good at politics and he really comes across as very arrogant a....hole on air.

Whatever else they've done, and they have dumped several good shows, they have truly pissed me off by pushing Mark Levin late, to 10 p.m. For Phil Hendrie? Please! He soiled this market before, talking to himself in goofy voices. It didn't work then, and it won't work now. Levin had to have numbers...I must check. Now, for my long commute home I still have Michael Savage (thank God), but at 8 p.m. I have to switch to K-Hits. Or anything else. And whereas the only time I ever actually parked my car and went into the house and switched on the kitchen radio to keep listening to a radio show was when the Great One (ML) was on. That will never happen again! Hendrie seems to have moderated his stupid conversations with transsexuals and seriel killers of his own invention, but why bury Levin for him? Hope the People Meter will punish the idiot who made that decision.
