Mojo Nixon rocker at 66

I met Mojo Nixon when a record store I worked at in Charlotte, NC used him on TV commercials. He told me his family had owned WYPR AM in Danville, VA. Great Top 40 station at one time. Sorry to hear of his passing.

Mojo was most definitely one of a kind. Best known for "Elvis Is Everywhere" but my favorite of his is off the same album, a song called "Positively Bodies Parking Lot". Pronounced bode-e not bod-e. He was also a big anti-censorship guy which makes him alright in my book.

His radio show on Outlaw Country was pretty crazy. No language barrier at all. Be sure no children are in the room when you listen.

Maybe it was just coincidence, when I fired up the music player on my phone this morning it started out with "I Hate Banks", one of a handful of Mojo songs that are more or less safe to play on broadcast radio.

I bet ol' Mojo and Andy Kaufman are goofin' on Elvis right about now.

This one hit me hard and was a total shocker. I first heard Mojo's music when I got a discount copy of the game Redneck Rampage. Then I became a fan. Mostly of his interviews and persona, the stories he told. A few days before he died I found out he had been doing a radio show and was going to start listening. Then I heard about his death.
