Mon/Ocean's most powerful FM gets destroyed in ratings

25,000 watt WCHR-FM, the most powerful radio station in the Monmouth/Ocean market got a big 2.2 in the latest ratings.

WCHR-FM got beat by another Classic Rock station 75 miles away, WAXQ, which got more than DOUBLE WCHR-FM's numbers.

Even 3,000 watt WJLK-FM beat WCHR-FM by more than one full point.
 
Maybe you should give WCHR management a call, or any other radio station or ad agency, and see how much they care about 12+ ratings. Check out the breakdowns in a radio station's target demo, and in this case, the Ocean numbers, before you claim it was destroyed.

Q104.3 is 75 miles away, but it still blankets Monmouth, while CHR breaks up around the Asbury tolls. Regardless, no advertisers are pulling commercials from the Hawk and buying Q104.3.
 
Power and ratings have nothing to do with each other.
Just like real estate, it's "location, location, location" ...
12+ ratings in a market that covers a lot of territory
are also meaningless, the Arbitron software does
breakouts that tell the real story.

The # 2 station in Atlantic City is the weakest one in town,
beating many 50,000 watters. In Philadelphia, the weakest
one, with some 500 watts, has been in the top spots.

Give me one (legal) watt in NYC and I'll make millions.
 
True that. 12+ # don't mean anything except bragging rights... it's all about the demographics... But, the problem for Milenium is that the deomographic breakdowns reflect the 2.2... they're not pretty. Heck, it's only two consecutive books. You never know where the next book will fall.
 
also whats with the point their playing like rap songs with timberlake then going to a 80s songs what are they doing? also the breeze rating went down a little but i think they will be fine and grock looks good in this book thanks to terri carr.
 
Dude, 105.7 is the best classic rock station in existance right now, Q104 is good too, but at least 105.7 is beating the shit out of WMGK
 
Think of what a REAL Active Rock station could do in Monmouth/Ocean. This is the way that Millennium should go with The Hawk if they want to make some money and bring in some ratings. Think of all the people that are NOT listening to radio, and those who listen to other stations "because there's nothing better". Those people likely have to deal with a lot of soft cupcake rock like Hinder, Daughtry, Coldplay, and other dullards played ad nauseum. Meanwhile, who is playing Deftones, Korn, Slipknot, Sevendust, Mudvayne, Nonpoint, Static-X, Killswitch Engage ... all with pretty substantial sales up to this point? The correct answer is: Nobody. That's right, nobody.

WCHR is capable of so much better than what they have now. Predictable, generic Classic Rock playlist, automation and simulcasted programs for a good part of the day? Yeah, people are obviously jumping out of their seats to listen to this exciting radio station! However, I don't think Active is likely to happen, since Millennium is known for being run by a bunch of conservative old codgers. Well, I guess they have something in common with other radio operators in Monmouth/Ocean (cough cough).
 
Oh god....HERE WE GO AGAIN...."He who knows all"...for the record I think Daughtry....(cupcake rocker dujour...) sold just a few more records than Static X.....call me crazy.....
 
It doesn't matter what format is on that station....it doesn't cover a large part of the population in the market (Central and Northern Monmouth), and as such, it can never have consistent ratings in the market. That station is all about image and target demos...not about 12+ ratings.

Maybe someone needs a geography lesson. Does WCHR-FM cover the whole market with a solid signal? No. Does it blanket Monmouth County? No. Unless your station can answer yes to both, don't waste your time posting the question.

There is an obvious audience for classic rock in Monmouth-Ocean as WAXQ ranks #3 12+ (#1 12+ in Monmouth County). Why does it get double the numbers of WCHR? Heavy diary placement in Monmouth County - we all know that's the case every survey. I said it back in the fall and I'll say it again now, the Monmouth-Ocean numbers read like a road map, north to south: WABC and WAXQ at the top, WOBM and WJRZ in the middle, WCHR-FM and WKMK at the bottom.

And, for the record, The Hawk does very well in Ocean County (#1 with double digits with their target audience).
 
hmmmm....I was about to send out KUDOS but am confused. Aside from Free Beer and Hot Wings, 9a-10p every day is live on the Hawk. Also weekends. Is that a "good part" of the day? Why, Free Beer and Hot Wings tie or beat Carl and Marty in the ratings!
 
actually, that's completely false about fbhw versus c/m. in the last set of arbitron ratings just released, wrat am beat wchr am in the following ways: people 12+, men18 - 49, men25 - 54, people18 to 34 and people25 - 54. the olny demo that wchr beat wrat in was men between the age of 18 and 34, and that looked to be an anomoly (sp?). in the two book average, combining the last two ratings books...wrat am beat wchr am in every one of those demo graphics, plus men 18 to 34. i didn't look at the women only numbers, because neither sation programs towards them. again, those stats are only reflective of the morning shows on the respective stations.
