Monday Night Football vs. Dancing With The Stars This Fall

For most of the season, ESPN's Monday Night Football

will compete with ABC's Dancing With The Stars.

To me, it's almost a running joke that Disney would

let this tragedy happen. They don't care about the NFL

that's why they send the B Team Prime Time Game

to cable. I bet that in 2014 NFL Network or maybe NBC

(Just to run it in their faces) will pick it up.

Disney Hates ESPN or else why can't they promote their cable events on

ABC (That's My Opinion)!

Despite the fact that they have athletes on DWTS, I don't think many men are watching it. My friend, who's a die-hard Cowboy fan, would get his wife to TIVO it, when Emmitt Smith was on, and he would watch Emmitt's scenes later. I know I can't watch it. Right now at work, I have to sit through two hours of "So You Think You Can Dance" and I'm ready to hang myself by the time it's over. I guess to each his own. I imagine the women/dance enthusiasts will be in one room watching DWTS and the Men/Football Lovers will be in another room watching MNF. I actually think it's smart programming. You own both channels, and you're going to get a majority share from both of your most profitable entities.

I will agree that over the past few years, ABC has done a HORRIBLE job promoting their sports coverage. I always see ABC sports promos on the ESPN Networks, but it's very rarely you even see a Sports promo on ABC these days.

I agree, it sounds like excellent block programming. Men attracted to MNF, and women to DWTS, both carried by the same parent company.

That's because ABC Sports as a network division doesn't exist anymore. The Mickey Mouse Outfit started combining its and ESPN's operations as soon as they bought out Cap Cities, finishing the job almost a year ago. Before 1997, Cap Cities, who IIRC, was a part-owner of ESPN before buying ABC, had started to combine the two divisions under their ownership.

I'm not sure if there's anything to promote strictly as an "ABC Sports" broadcast other than maybe the Rose Bowl, now that MNF was switched to ESPN.

Yikes. You simply DO NOT get it.

At all. Not even remotely close. ::)

Amen! Smart programming choice, as the audiences have very little overlap. There's nothing stupid about it.

The only problem here is that MNF should be back on ABC and DTWS should be relegated to digital cable. Not just basic cable -> digital cable, somewhere down around channel 455. ;)

I hope the NBA goes back on NBC. I liked when NBC had the NBA back in the 90s. They did a great job. I think in years to come NBC will be getting back into sports. They wanted the NFL and they got that back. They got NHL which does well. NBC also has the PGA and Kentucky Derby. To bad they got rid of NASCAR but they were losing money on it NBC said so thats why ESPN has it now.
