The two biggies tonight were "Dancing With the Stars" and "Two and a Half Men".

So far, yet to see "Two", but "Dancing" is very well produced. Nice new set, and some strong celebrity sightings on "dancing". I would bet they will put Bono somewhere in the mix when "Two" is airing, if not that, the very end. Nice competition, and I'm not talking about the dancers.

Thoughts on tonight?

FWIW, my quick review of "two" tonight:

Moderately funny. Some chuckles, but not the funniest episode of the series. Nice set up for future episodes. Lots of penis jokes. (Yeah, we get it, Ashton is well endowed). I would have liked to see some more intelligent comedy, but perhaps that will come in future episodes, going back to some earlier episodes. Just my opinion...

In the last season of "Designing Women," Julia Duffy's character, Allison left and pulled out her money so Sugarbakers is broke. So then a newly rich person comes along, in the character of BJ (played by Judith Ivey) and just decides to save Sugarbakers because she's so rich.

Now we have Sheen's character Charlie leaving and now Alan is broke and is suddenly saved by the appearance of a rich stranger and decides to save him, because he's so rich.

I wish things like this would happen in real life ;D

I watched Men from the start, but wont this year after the first episode. Its never been one for intelligent comedy. This episode was pretty much all about Lorre's bitterness though.

I noticed that they are very proud of the number of viewers for last nights season premiere of "Two and a Half Men". Based on some of the discussions around the net, I wonder how many of those people watched the whole thing as many people said they changed channels at the funeral scene.

Kutcher was a predictable flop but I'm surprised that the writers didn't give him better material. It was like they stopped the storyline after the initial outline. The rest of the cast was their usual great selves but, again, didn't have a lot to work with. But the focus is on Kutcher and he clearly isn't up to it. Very poor replacement choice.

I will disagree about "intelligent comedy" on "Two". One of the secrets of this show's success is the insertion of intelligent comedy in between the inmature gags. One episode that goes way back is Sheen's idea that he must act gay to please a client. Classic, and priceless comedy. This is the kind of comedy that requires a step in an "intelligent" direction, and it worked on all levels.

I don't know what all the fuss is about regarding Two and a Half Men. Most likely this is the show's last season since Kutcher reportedly signed a one year contract.

Despite his numerous interviews about the desire to have a regular TV show, Kutcher wants to be a movie star and let's be honest here, the movies he's made since leaving That 70s Show hasn't really been setting any box office records. So by appearing on a highly rated TV show could help jump start Kutcher's movie career.

I saw the first episode of the new season and granted there were some funny moments, especially at the funeral service. But how about giving some credit to Jon Cryer for his part in the show.

Good points, but unless this show tanks (unlikely after the huge season opener), this will not be the last season. Everyone knows the networks will milk every rating point until their is nothing to be milked. (yes, there are exceptions, but it is not the rule).

Usually when a show undergoes a major change such as this, it is indeed the show's last season. At any rate, the kid on that show is getting too old to be called a "half-man" anymore, anyway. ::)

Only because they don't have anything better (or even anything else!) to fill the slot.

So, is Ashton Kutcher set to become the new Ted McGinley? The patron saint of jumped sharks?

Don't know, has Kutcher been on other "jts" shows? At any rate, I thought that Men should have just gone ahead and brought in McGinley, and avoided the suspense! ;D

That was a good episode. Alan pretending to be gay is not much of a stretch. I've always found it curious that supermacho Charlie wrote music that made him seem gay. Okay, compared to Jeff on "Rules of Engagement", Charlie is kind of a wimp.
