With the current economic conditions, its been interesting listening to shows like money matters. barry armstrong the host seems to really hit the right notes. is anyone else finding themselves checking out money matters or other business shows during these times. he seems pretty credible. ive seen him on tv and heard him say he has a newspaper column on his show.

I agree; I've gotta give Armstrong credit (no, not the kind of credit that would involve my lending him money--if I have any left after yesterday), and even though Money Matters is really a paid commercial for his money management business, he comes across to me as highly credible, too. In addition, his manner is pleasant. Of course, one MIGHT have said the same about Brad and Bonnie Bleidt;>(

BTW, if you are in range, you can also hear Money Matters on a station that Armstrong owns, WBNW 1120.

During one of their newscasts, WBZ-TV interviewed him at the "studios" of WBNW, which looked like a room in his house (with an engineer in a small glassed-off area in the background). You know, it DOES seem odd that his program would be on BOTH WBNW and WBIX; that would be like Having IIIII-AMMMMM-MIIICHAAAAAEL-GRAAAAAAAAAAHAMMMM on both WTKKK and WRKO.

I listen to Armstrong and I agree, he does seem very credible. It's actually refreshing to hear what sounds like true advice from a normal, pleasant guy. While yeah, I'm sure he gets paid on behalf of his money management company, but ask yourself a question: "If you have a job that you are really great at AND you're able to go onto radio or television and tell as many people as you can about how you can help them with your knowledge and services, why would one not take that opportunity?" Maybe there are some true, honest people still left out there after all? I sense that with the critical events currently surrounding our personal finances we should all be listening......and telling everyone else to listen!

When WBNW goes to night pattern after sunset, you can't even hear them in WBIX's prime listening area of Natick, Framingham, Ashland, etc... and, also at night, WBIX is a pretty weak catch around WBNW's area of Concord, Acton, etc...

In the daytime, both stations cover the same ground (and WBIX a lot more), but at night, much of the coverage areas of both stations are mutually exclusive to one another.

WBNW's studios are on Gould St (I believe) in Needham at the main office of Armstrong's financial planning firm. He also owns AM 940 in (I think) Southbridge. For all I know he does have a studio in his house in Medway or Medfield (I can never keep those two towns straight--at least I don't have either one confused with Medford).

As for his program appearing on WBIX as well as WBNW, as Eli pointed out, there ARE coverage differences. But there is more to the story. The program also airs (wires?) on CRNI (the Cable Radio Network, _NOT_ WCRN), which WBIX owner Alex Langer either owns or owns a good piece of. As a result, Money Matters airs not only on WBIX but also on Langer's two other AMs, WFYL 1180 King of Prussia (Philaelphia) and WPYT 660 Wilkinsburg (Pittsburgh). I think the CRNI feed is carried on a number of over-the-air stations around the country, so you are likely to hear Money Matters on radio in some places you never would have imagined. I believe CRNI has six satellite feeds and one of them may be dedicated to BRN (Business Radio Network), the Greenwich CT-based outfit that currently owns WXBR 1460 in Brockton. I don't know whether WXBR carries the Money Matters program. But WXBR has a lot of coverage overlap with WPLM (AM) 1390 in Plymouth, which Armstrong himself (or one of his companies) LMAs. WPLM definitely carries the Money Matters program--and WBNW's full schedule. As you can see, the situation is rather complex.

the situation sounds quite confusing. I listen online at work however. its good to finally see they updated their site. they must be chomping at the bit right now.

>>WBZ-TV interviewed him at the "studios" of WBNW

And it looked like they're using the same brand and model of board WMWM has, I noticed.

yeah, i didnt see that appearance but i saw one on fox. at the end of the day it seems he knows his stuff and prefers to answer peoples financial questions than mess around. hes got this guy on thursdays whos borderline a genius, michael brush one of the best columnists out there

They also have a couple of dudes from the boston herald on there. Seems many media outlets are hot on Armstrong. Is he good enough for a bigger station...maybe even FM???

i dunno how any of the talk fm stations would respond to the personal finance issue. I think it makes sense especially now. a lot of people are focusing on expenses a lot more and armstrong and his cast know how to connect with the average consumer. i like how his show is more about him and sharing his knowledge rather than hokey interviews. hes been asked to do a lot this week in the media so itd be interesting to see how it affects his show. its great content so i'll go where the signals best.

Didn't WTKK have a personal finance show on for a couple of years and wasn't it on in approximately the same time slot as Armstrong is on now on WBIX and WBNW? I hardly ever listened and I think the show is long gone but hadn't the host originally done a similar show on WRKO and wasn't he on the BU faculty? Don't take that as an indication that the program was dry and academic; it really was pretty down to earth although I didn't get the feeling that the host could connect with the audience as well as Armstrong seems to.

todays show got pretty crazy with the bailout. I think they gotta get that bailout resolved. armstrong usually shows passion but today he showed a lot of frustration with the politicians. good to listen to though.
