Monique and the Man Jack

Jack FM seems to have faded into the background: I just noticed they got a 2.3 12+ for Winter Oh Eight, down a point from last Spring. That ties them at 20th whereas with a 3.3 they'd be up around #12.

Anyone have an idea of how they're doing in the mornings? I still wish they'd have given Monique her own show - when they let the other players on mike the show goes from 60 to zero in 2.2 seconds. Program directors seem to forget that talented people can actually do a show by themselves without having an entourage.

Billboards, direct mail and TV campaigns were allowed to fade months ago. Jack has virtually no presence on the street. Any new listeners are brought in either by word-of-mouth or random scanning - two pee-poor ways to bring in new cume. It's never been any secret that radio is an also-ran to TV in the corporate stable, and it looks to me like Midwest is perfectly happy billing just enough with the FM to keep the xmtr running.

Yeah, bummer - they have one of the few really funny and smart people on San Diego morning radio (come on, DS&C do Beavis and Butthead for boomers....) laboring in obscurity in a lame setting.

Jack FM has done poorly in almost all markets, particularly Denver (0.9), Oklahoma City (0.9), Houston (1.1), Chicago (1.9), Dallas (2.0), and Seattle (2.0). But, if you can pull a 2 share with just a board op, you're bound to make money and, after all, isn't that the bottom line? ::)

All the Jack's are different, but it is a "stealthy" format. KFMB was #2 25-54
in the Fall 07 Arbitron. I haven't seen the Winter numbers.
Adult Hits usually does much better 25-54 than 12+.

Well, in the fall they had a 3.5 share 12+. In the Winter that dropped to a 2.3, and in the first phase of spring 12+ it's dropped to a 1.8.

I would be very surprised, pulling something as low as a 2.3 or a 1.8 12+, that it would be mathematically possible for them to have any one individual demo where they would have a particularly high rank.

You're probably right about their current 25-54 numbers. They've got
to be down. Have they done anything different in the last six months?
Something is not working.

It doesn't matter. Midwest management will let the numbers slide without putting any money into it, until the billing dips below the Sales Manager's bonus threshold (or it's not paying for the xmtr juice, whichever comes first). Then they'll flip to some satellite format and ride that until it croaks.

I have no confidence that the KFMB stations will ever regain any semblance of their former glory unless 1) Midwest finally sells them off, or 2) Jesus returns. I have faith in the latter event eventually occurring; no faith in the former.
