Mo'Nique Works for WMMJ

WMMJ has moved to #2 12+ with Tom Joyner and Mo'Nique catching up to Steve Harvey and Michael Baisden according to http://dcrtv.com/. Can we say that the Mo'Nique experiment has worked? I've listened to her show a couple of times and it is perfect for any Urban AC station. With her imrpressive gains on Michael Baisden in DC, she saved WMMJ from falling way behind WHUR, which recorded a 7 share in the spring book. The battle between WHUR and WMMJ appears to have begun, with Mo'Nique carrying the torch, and Tom Joyner doing his own thing in the morning.

My gut says no. But the truth is too soon to tell. I have not seen all the break outs in terms of day parts but if I were looking for the location of station growth propelling MMJ back into the fight, I'd look at Mid Days. Olivia has been in the chair long enough to have an impact on ratings. I'd begin looking for a Monique effect after she has been on the air for an entire book.

The amazing thing is how little class A WMMJ (6000 watt equivilent) hangs with the big boys (class B, 50kw) in the ratings, year after year. Is there any other class A that comes close to doing this in the major markets? Radio One's class A WQNC, with about the same programing (Joyner, Monique) sure can't do it in Charlotte.
