Monkey Takes Over WIOD Board Ops

Well, that's the only thing I can think of. Have any of you ever tried listening to the Mark Levin show on WIOD?

Lately, they have developed a very annoying habit of running spots right through the regular spot breaks and many times at least halfway through Mark's next segment. Many times, they'll just run the spots from right before Mark's last segment of the hour right through to the top of the hour, so we don't get to hear Mark's last segment each hour at all.

You know what, maybe my subject line of this topic is wrong. A trained monkey could run a board better than their automation equipment at WIOD.

It's possible the system is automated and the automation is messed up. Since no one really listens or monitors most stations in the evening and overnight, I bet it wont get corrected too quickly either

Oh yeah, I'm sure it's the Prophet system messing up again, though I had heard that - at least a year or two ago - they actually had a board op during the evening / night hours.

It's really a shame that in such a large market as Miami -Ft. Lauderdale the "dominant" news/talk station is run in such a slipshod manner.

I guess that's part of the reason why the "dominant" news/talk station in a market with 3.6 million people has a cume of only 215,000 and ranks #22 in AQH

Usually, its a result that traffic loads up all of the local spots on certain breaks instead of spreading them out over the show. Therefore, certain spot blocks in Satellite Mode on Prophet are over filled and them remaining spot blocks get automatically filled with PSAs. Negligence for sure.

It's possible that running spots over the final segment is done on purpose. Many stations have been doing this to shows that have a small 5th segment that shows up at ~55:00 past the hour in order to gain more commercial time. I don't know why talk shows still do this, including Rush Limbaugh. It's not PPM friendly. WIOD runs Mark Levin on a 3 hour delay too. If you have Sirius XM, just listen to Levin's show on that. It's live and error free.
