Monkeys in charge of programming at XM/Sirius?

Who's the genius at XM/Siri that decided to dump the SINGLE beautiful music channel (ESCAPE) for more rock & rock this holiday weekend? Hell, they've got 15+ rock channels, and they can't pre-empt one of those for their live RnR weekend, but instead the channel with about the highest TSL of any XM channel? Do (un)trained monkeys operate XM these days? WTF? You don't dump your 'one of a kind channels' like Escape, Bluegrass, Folk, or Cinemagic; you dump your genre that you've got tons of, like Rock, or Soul. Oh yeah, I forgot, XM lost 'their soul' when they had their deal with the devil - the hostile take-over by Sirius and firing of half of XM's music DJ's. Not very happy with their lack of foresight these days.
What ever happened to their 'special way' to overlay additional channels - or is that bandwidth used for the useless Sirius backseat video, or XM traffic/nav/WX??

That's actually pretty funny in a sick way. They go from the Living Strings into Black Sabbath. Talk about your trainwreck segue. That'll get the heart rate pumping, won't it? I see it's not the first time they pre-empted this channel. Last time was in December for Jewish holiday programming. Perhaps not as jarring, but still quite a change. Yeaow!

"All right, Cincinnati, it is time for this town to get down! You've got Johnny... Doctor Johnny Fever, and I am burning up in here! WHOA! We ALL in critical condition babies, but you can tell me where it hurts, 'cause I got the healing prescription here from the big 'KRP musical medicine cabinet! Now I am talking about your 50,000-watt intensive CARE unit, babies! So just sit right down, relax, open your ears REAL wide and say "Give it to me straight, doctor, I can take it!"

I almost forgot, fellow babies... BOOGER!"

Did you notice that WKRP went from a 50KW clear to a 5KW regional from the pilot episode to the regular series?
Also, in the "New WKRP" v2.0 in the late 80's/early 90's, they once mentioned their frequency too! Same as WCKY/WSAI etc: 1530! Must have time-shared the frequency with the Jacor/Clear Channel station?

What's amazing is how cheap XM-Sirius has gotten. The MLB channel (175) is a joke now. Instead of a live show from 7pm to 1am nightly we get a simulcast of the MLB TV network and then they carry a simulcast of the tv game that MLB tv is showing that night. I just love hearing the guys on there say "Did you see that great catch?" No I didn't. My XM receiver doesn't show video...

My other gripe is how out of the 100 or so music channels we can't have one freaking Classic R&B channel? I don't mean Soul or Motown (which I enjoy) but real R&B like Big Joe Turner, LaVern Baker, Hank Ballard, Fats Domino, et. al. In other words an R&B channel that focuses on pre-1960 music.

I agree with you on the Classic R&B Channel. I would like to see someone offer that format as one of the 'free channels', along with a traditional Tex-Mex (accordian style Spanish) music station (like XM92 was) for your Cinco DeMayo parties - if they offered the channels, even with advertisements, that would be fine - supported by ads for niche formats that people want to hear! The price is right too!

That channel was The Flow. Sadly they did away with it in 2006. XM and Sirius don't even share all their Urban channels, as The Groove is only carried on XM.

The New York-centered attitude of SiriXM is infuriating. Tex-Mex and regional Mexican music are played on just about all stations with a Spanish format west of the Mississippi, yet the Noo Yawk suits at SiriXM, who hear only Caribbean-flavored music on their local Spanish-language stations on their morning commutes from Westchester or Long Island, have concluded that Mexican music is some sort of obscure niche that doesn't deserve SiriXM bandwidth. Further evidence that SiriXM thinks New York radio is the only radio that matters is the obscene money paid to Howard Stern, giving a channel to Chris Russo (whose show on WFAN wasn't even syndicated, making him a total unknown outside the market), and allowing over-the-hill NY FM hacks to sleepwalk their way through trite, cliched, voicetracked patter on the music channels instead of looking outside the Rotten Apple for new talent to develop.

Lots of good talent in Chicago, Detroit, Cincy, Houston, Phoenix markets that are overlooked - they do need to get out of NYC - even DC will be a breath of fresh air!

No money. The gravy train ended with the merger. Talent from those cities are welcome, but they need to bring their own facilities.
