As if it wasn't enough that Magic 100.1 was tied by a soft rock station broadcasting out of Atlantic City ... how telling a sign is it that SoJo 104.9 (of all stations) is just slightly behind it? C'mon, Greater Media - it's time to give it up. There just isn't enough room for all of these frequencies doing the exact same thing. It should be obvious that this market needs an Alternative station, given the uproar over the abrupt killing of G Rock 106.3/106.5 roughly three years ago. But since GM runs the only station in the market playing some current rock, I highly doubt they're going to risk cannibalizing it. It's time to either bring back Classic Hits or (better yet) launch a much-needed Talk format in the area. Hey, if someone is willing to do it on a tiny AM signal in the market to our south, what's the reluctance to try one in a market with over three times their population? If they can invest the money in some local and syndicated talent, they have a very good chance at being a major player in Ocean County. At some point they're going to have to stop the bleeding from a format that has been an abysmal failure since day one. But it's anybody's guess as to how long they're going to settle for being the long-term occupant of the Monmouth/Ocean ratings cellar.
