Monmouth/Ocean Feb-April Trends

It's definitely time for Greater Media to pull the plug on Magic and try something else ... I would say Alternative, but that won't happen because they think it would cannibalize the classic rock leaning 'RAT. Probably Talk with a conservative slant or a return to Classic Hits would be the way to go.

WCBS-FM got better numbers than Magic 100.1, and their signal throughout this market is spotty to say the least. If that's not a sign that the Classic Hits format needs to come back to WJRZ, I don't know what is.

Sadly, I don't think GM would ever bring back Classic Hits on 100.1. Buzz Knight would have it leaning too classic rock, even if they did. Press would be a better candidate - as The Breeze evolves out of the 60's and 70's (it sounds like it is anyways) Press could put classic hits on 98.5 - it would take the upper end of 25-54, compete with WOBM-FM in Ocean County, and leave The Breeze alone in Monmouth County where The Breeze pulls most of their audience. Of course this makes sense, so none of it will ever happen...

If it should happen, what would be the magical format on 99.7? Unless they "swap" B98.5 to 99.7.

Leave the Breeze on 99.7 - the signal is a dog for a standalone format. 5.8 kw @ 100 feet is great for irradiating the fishes off of LBI, but not for much else. From what I know, 107.1 is where the Breeze gets most of its listeners. Let 99.7 chip away at WOBM-FM in Southern Ocean, while 98.5 could strip the older end of the demos in the rest of the county.

Wait....that reminds me...speaking of 99.7, whatever happened to the "proposed" swap of Press having the breeze on 99.3 and Equity having Kiss on 99.7?

WAJM 88.9 (the station that 99.3 would be short spaced to if moved to 99.7) had their license renewed, so that stopped it (for now). Plus, per NERW "WPOV-LP (99.9 Vineland) already has a pending CP, also at Press' expense, to move to the 107.7 frequency that became available after WSNJ-FM in Bridgeton was moved off 107.7 a few years back."

So I doubt it will happen any time soon.

Though country WKMK slipped a bit from its winter highs, ratings are still strong enough to tie for fourth place overall (and second place among music stations).
I miss the commercial free 106 minutes they used to run after 9 am. But perhaps it is a sign of success that they have lots of ads to fill the time.

Don't forget the 99.9 coming on the air this or next week in Egg Harbor City which will be repeating 88.7 Port Republic. So Press would be competeing with another 99.9 not far from Vineland.
