Monmouth Ocean numbers?

The Monmouth Ocean book came out today....anyone have any details?

Very Good Book overall for the Shore Stations as they ALL saw GAINS except:

WJLK (The Point) Had a great winter book but it didn't carry over to the new book as they were DOWN nearly a FULL point to round out the top 10. Maybe people are tuning out after the morning show because of the midday jock who sounds like he needs a hefty dose of ritalin. ::)

WCHR (The Hawk) DOWN a shade to 14th in the Market falling to NYC's Rocker Q-104.3 which is nothing short of laughable with that Class B1 signal that can be heard from Ocean City to Eatontown...perhaps dull and status-quo programming is a contributor to this?? Or maybe the fact that theres no stability on that station at all in terms of talent??

WOBM-AM also saw a slight decline in the aging Standards Audience...maybe we lost some who knows!!

The BIGGEST WINNERS were:

WJRZ (Classic Hits) up nearly a point and a half considering its restrcited Class A stick, Very Impressive!

The Breeze(s) up a full point to 2nd place behind 101.5... must be that "NO Repeat Work Week/Weekend" concept!

WRAT UP nearly a point which is its LARGEST gain in a VERY long time especially with its restricted Class A signal!

WOBM-FM UP a half point to #7 in the Market... Must be that Delilah ;D

WKMK (K 98.5) UP a tick as well for a Southern Ocean stick. New PD seems to have gotten that station on track!

WHTG-FM (GROCK) Rounds out the Shore FM's in 16TH Place up a hair. Sad results for a station occupying two Freq's :-[

WHTG-AM (Real Oldies) with a very STRONG showing cracking a one share for a Small Local AM in the Market. Throw in a great selection of music, some variety and inject some personality and enjoy the results. Kudos to the programming staff for a pleasant listen in the Monmouth County area! :)

*****NO SHOW***** for Millennium's "Format du jour station" WADB (Fox Sports 1310) through its 3rd incarnation in as many years. Save some electric and shut the thing down. Perhaps the listeners in the area would be better served with the Spanish Programming from 1310 in Morris County WXMC.

Of the NYC stations:

Nice Bump for Q 104.3 UP nearly a point. Clearly THIS is where The Hawk is losing its audience.

Great BUMP for 'PLJ UP more than a point and this apparently took its toll on The Point.

Nice Gain for CBS-FM UP nearly a point. Surprising too considering south of the Asbury Tolls in nearly unlistenable.

Improvement for WABC too UP nearly .5 to round out the Top 3... Must be that Imus LOL!!

Interesting Book! Guess we'll have to wait until the Fall to see how these results shake out.

DAMNIT! that pisses me off. WCHR is the greatest classic rocker around. and to get beat by Q104? wow. WCHR even covers most of the Philly market. Q104 barely even comes in in my area, it cant be much stronger in the hawks area. it wasn't too clear in seaside heights when i was there last summer. not to mention i find their music boring. (just my opinion) but seriously, thats almost as bad as The Bone getting beat by WZZO in Allentown. in my area WMGK is a factor as well, but also in my area, many of the WTHK fans are on WCHR.

Although I don't listen to alot of these stations because I can't get them in, I have heard the Hawk and it can't compare to Q104...its terrible...Q is a much better station.....The Rat bores me....I'd still rather hear Q than Ozzy (who i like) every 40 minutes and I love HTG. WHTG is the only station that sounds a little unique...Love the modern rock ..always have...NY needs a modern rocker.......plus...I can occasionally hear them in Somerset. 9some days stronger than others) considering people on this board are always takking about these shore radio stations, my question is most of these stations don't get promoted too well do they? considering they seem to be so many doing similar things.....is it because of money?

WCHR should just be flipped. End of story. What a bland, dull, pitiful excuse for a station. And through all the time I've listened, I haven't heard anything that makes them stand out from similar stations. There's just too much competition for the forklift driver audience between them, WRAT, WXRK and WAXQ. WCHR should just drop out of the fray and go heavy Active Rock. I think they will pull ratings that at least will stay on par with where they are now, and even take some air out of WRAT's sails. WRAT positions itself as edgy, but they're a wimpy generic mainstream "adult rock" station that actually plays junk like Buckcherry's "Sorry", a song that isn't "Rock" at all. If Millennium shows some courage and flips The Hawk, the ratings will certainly be more of what one would expect from such a strong signal, and they would retain the beer companies and auto dealerships as advertisers. What do they have to lose?

Hey Radio411 - nice recap...but how do you miss including New Jersey 101.5 on your biggest winners list?! They're number 1 - and they pummel the rest of the market. 2 full points between them and number 2...clearly they are the biggest winner...again.

NJ VET Good Catch and you are absolutely correct... I figured it was "understood" but it was indeed an oversight on my part to omit 1015 from my rundown. Congrats are in order for leading the pack for the 2nd straight book, a spot that WABC held a year ago with a Mid-6 share. Thats obviously Millennium's $$$ Maker which anchors and keeps some other stations afloat I'd imagine. Must be lots of "bonusing" and "freebies" going around to their advertisers.

WMGK is a bigger concern for The Hawk Than Q104 is. (dont even say MGK beats the hawk). Q104 only covers ther northern half of the hawks signal, when MGK covers the whole thing.

105.7 The Hawk is nothing more than a New York City wanna-be transmitting from 75 miles south of the city.

It's 105.7 WCHR-FM, Manahawkin, NJ. That's Manahawkin, as in Southern Ocean County, as in 30 minutes from Atlantic City and 50 miles from Philadelphia.

If the station were to go LOCAL (as in targeting a 25 mile radius around Manahawkin) you would see the numbers change drastically.

Traffic reports for the Turnpike, endless talk about the Mets/Yankees/Giants and loads of commercials for businesses in Red Bank/Asbury Park/Freehold/etc. aren't going to cut it.

Agreed. The annoying North Jersey accents have to go to cut in down here too.

so what, are they not suppose to give two sh**s about their philly listeners? people wont actually change a station thats coming in CLEAR, just because it sounds like its from another area. look at MMR, they talk about anywhere from reading to atlantic city, and look at their numbers.

god forbid the station we have on isnt LOCAL. what does local have to do with the music? it dont matter if its philly, jersey, or nyc, if it comes in, nad has good music, the people who can hear it will listen and not give a damn where its from.

as you can see im a loyal fan of an out of area station, that sounds as if its right down the street. my "local" classic rocker is WMGK, but i listen to the one that playes my style of the classic rock. my "local" alternative station is 104.5, but i listen to G Rock because its not the same 30 songs everyone else is beating into your head.

i understand what you mean by advertising local, but targeting only 25 miles of your 60 mile listening range? thats a dumb thing on a stations part.

and if anythin g WCHR is a philly wannabe. the hawk dont come in within 20 miles of the nyc.

im not trying to sound like an ass, but its just the way i look at the station.

and im not trying to piss you off. infact i agree with the no more NYC stuff, and by all means, definitly advertise for local businesses, but definitly do not blow off you out of area listeners. lets face it, half the people that listen to local stations are just listening because it comes in clear, but the out of area listeners are the loyal ones, because it means they like the music better than what their local station has to offer.

Yes, kudos to all the stations that went up! I love the way Spider McGuire gives everybody a shot on air at winning record pig trivia. But regarding the Hawk, there must be a way to find out who the #1 station is with adults in Manahawkin and southern ocean county. If the Hawk is not doing a good job programming to their "home base" then the ratings in southern ocean would reflect that. Can anybody find those out?

According to what I saw today... that "boring" programming on WRAT just made them #1 with people 25-54, and #1 18-49, and #1 with men 25-54. Not too shabby, but they did drop in the 18 to 34 male slot: which they usually rule (so is that a problem for RAT???). The Hawk's numbers were entirely based in increases in teenagers (!believe that or not!). They had, like, a 20 in the afternoons 12 to 24!!! (so much for the younger men wanting to hear a bunch of aggroactiverock) That gave them great 18 to 34 numbers, but it could be hard for them to get a beer buy with all those teenagers. HTG's nighttime listeners in their sweet spot went to zippo in the nighttime, it's like they just turned the station off. Plus there were small drops in midday and afternoons. But the HTG morning show increased in men 18 to 34. Odd, because I can't stand them in the am. In my humble opinion... that's no way to program a two signals in the market... it needs to be more mass appeal to attract some actual tsl. WJRZ's overall increase is based in 35 year old and up... not what you'd call "the money demo". And as for promotion... I remember seeing Hark billboards in Monmouth/Ocean. I also saw Rat billboards and KRock billboards. I saw some HTG billboards that mentioned a "no repeat" feature (not really a feature you'd expect to hear from an alternative station) I think I saw some OBM billboards too (something about winning a house payment???). I'll hit back if I get to see any other numbers.
