monmouth-ocean ratings

mon-ocean book is good for most local stations and ny stations with even philly stations getting in.
top 5
1. wabc 7.1
2. wkxw 6.7
3. wjlk 4.3
4.wobm 4.1
4.wwzy/wbhx 4.1
5.wchr 3.5
6. wor 3.5

what i think is wabc and wkxw do good in a "red "area, 94.3 the point is good for some rock and women/80s music mix, wobm appeals to women , the breeze is cool radio station i like their oldies but hate that sad music they play so i can see them tieing, wchr is ok for classic rock and wor appeals to alot of elder people we have around here.

also on the other radio stations whtg/wkoe ratings problary picked up krocks old fans like me and wrat took a big swing too it doesent have a big signal like g-rock so that beets them. also wjrz-fm took a hit maybe from the breeze? and the couple of phily stations problary only reach south ocean or exterme west monmouth/ocean anytime iam in jackson i get most philly stations good and on lbi also. what do you people think of my comments

I have never had any problem getting the Philly stations in Toms River or Lakewood and they're far from "south ocean or exterme west monmouth/ocean".

Pretty much, you can't get the Phila. FM's in Monmouth county unless you're either very far south or west of Freehold. Up along the north shore, forget it.... the NY stations are dominant. The whole concept of a Monmouth-Ocean metro is pretty much a joke.... basically two small markets artificially combined to create a medium market.

Being almost 80 miles long and populated almost exclusively by Class A FM's, there is no station that covers all of the market (save for a couple of the NY and Phila. AM blowtorches.) Most of Monmouth County is dominated by NY radio stations, while most of Ocean (depending on your location) is dominated by Phila. and AC stations.... plus whichever indigenous signals you could pick up in your particular location.

I don't know how any competent buyer could use that metro to put together a marketing plan. On paper, it would look as if you were getting good numbers, but if you broke it out by zip codes or even by counties, you would see major holes. Since the highest concentration of population is in the northern parts of the "metro" you will generally see the numbers skewed towards both the NY and Monmouth county stations... but once the parkway exits dip into the doubble digits, you can kiss those northern signals goodbye and it's a whole new ballgame. Some of the "hits" you mentioned (such as WWZY vs. WJRZ) may have a lot more to do with diary placement than loss or gain of actual audience.
