Mono Compatible Stereo Reverb for AM Broadcast & Internet Stream

Hi,

I'd like to insert a tastefully adjusted stereo plate reverb, 1980's WHTZ / WABC style across our main broadcast mix (which feeds our AM transmitter and Stereo Internet feed)

Is there such a unit? I've played with the Behringer V-Verb Pro but it really muddied up the AM and after emailing Behringer they advised their reverb patches are not mono compatible.

Any reasonably priced suggestions? Used units that can be obtained off E-Bay etc are fine.

Is this TC Electronics VSS technology any good?

Check out Alesis, Yamaha, and Lexicon.

The best I've used is that old Orban reverb. Check these brands out on
E-Bay.
 
I would suggest looking for the Orban unit as well. Excellent device. Believe it was a model 111 (?)

If you have the room, lots of time on your hands, and carpentry skills--build a large rectangular box, put a simple mike at one end and a speaker at the other (driven by limited audio).

Played with an echo chamber/reverb box like that at the old WJW TV studios. Interesting device.

On second thought...look for the Orban!

Thanks! The Orban 111B looks nice, will keep my eye out for one - if anyone has one lying around please let me know!

Where's the best place to insert? I've got a nice Cutting Edge Unity AM that has the Patch Point Input, I'm guessing that's a good place so I can adjust how much wet signal is heard?

If you're running some pre-processing (compellor or agc)...put the reverb
between that and your main processor.

You'll want some gain control before it hits the reverb, otherwise, a hot mic and bad board riding will hit that reverb hard.

See if you can find a Lexicon PCM 70. Mono in, creates a stereo reverb out. Nice on voice and music, had one as my main reverb in the production suite for years and never wanted anything else.

Until the mega buck TC Electronic M-6000 came along. That couold be reverb's holy grail next to a well maintained Neumann plate reverb.

The reverb may be a little heavy, but that's excellent quality for a 1976 recording. I wonder what they were using for audio processing, as the Optimod was still in its infancy back then.<P ID="signature">______________

I thought the same thing when I listened. Clean and great compression.

I grew up listening to that station in that era. 'PGC always seemed louder and bigger than everybody else.

Jim Collins, the 10a-2p dj on the aircheck, was also PD.

Can anyone suggest any settings for the Orban 111? I like the Z-100 sound.
