Monster Log from Monroe, WA on 12/28-RECORD AGAIN!!

I made a monster log from my new spot in Monroe, WA on December 28th (no computer). This will count because this is my new QTH!

1566 - HLAZ Jeju, South Korea, heard at 7:45AM 12/28 with Japanese talk and religious hymns. The BEST signal I have heard in my two years of Trans-Pacific DX. Barefoot, it was listenable at times, and with the box loop pegged the Grundig G5's S-meter. This is another record log!

Distance is 5,410 miles away from Monroe, WA!! This is a milestone, and a new log for me (471). I sure wished I had a computer for this!

1540 is very quiet at night- I hear KXEL about almost every night at 1500 miles. KXPA to the South, no KMPC yet. I did log KMPC one time from the "really old" QTH in Bothell. However, adios to KFBK and KGA as they are wiped out by KKXA IBOC.
I heard WBBM 15 minutes into the New Year with a fair signal. WHO and KFAB 15 minutes BEFORE the new year. Still no Radio Rebelde 1180, but I know they are common.

Slightly belated congrats on your impressive new catch.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but it would seem that your new location is better than your former one for DX. No more....or at least fewer...monster signals like KIXI right at your doorstep. At any rate, it'll be interesting to follow your reports of what turns up on your radio(s) at your new digs. Especially with that new antenna of yours!

I do have KKXA, and KRKO, wiping out the adjacents. KIXI is definitely not as strong as back in Bellevue. Another channel has bit the dust as well - 1610. I live probably a mile away from a WSDOT TIS with Stevens Pass weather reports. Callsign is KNEZ390 (just like the numbers of 530s in the Seattle area during traffic closures...)

Do you happen to know why a Korean station was broadcasting in Japanese?

HLAZ does programs in more than one language (Korean, Japanese, Chinese I know of) since they are a religious blaster. I know other West Coast DXers have heard HLAZ do Chinese + Japanese. It's normal on that station.

I guess the island location allows them to reach those targets over salt water paths.

Heard that the power was 250kw, so that may also be a reason for the Chinese and Japanese programs.

Nice job on that crainbebo- last night was a good night for dxing, there were some anomalies or oddities on the MW bands. I was tuning the car radio and our local AM religious 1360 KPXQ fizzled out, then came in El Paso Yahoo sports loud and clear with ID! It was bizarre. I had hoped SW was the same, when we got back in I tried some band scanning on the shortwaves to no avail, the conditions seemed pretty noisy.

No - moved into an apartment after being in Bellevue at a relative's house for one + years.

Great job Crainbebo! I'll be interested in your observations comparing what you can hear at your new location versus your old one.
