Monte Radio? What was that? KGO in melt down.

I thought nothing could be worse than Watenburg in the evenings until I heard someone calling himself "monte"...Saturday at 10 pm. He kind of sounded like Kevin Wall who does alot of fill in work around the country and on FOX radio.

Funny that both knbr and kgo would use him, is knbr cumulus now too? I predict kqed FM will see a ratings increase as people dump kgo

KNBR has been Cumulus for a few years now - since Cumulus bought out the local Susquehana stations (KNBR, KFOG, KTCT, KSAN) - the former ABC/Disney/Citadel stations (KGO, KSFO) are the most recent Bay Area acquisitions for Cumulus

Hey its not surprising that he will do this. Heck KGO now borrows sports staff people from KNBR all the time. I say KGO will live on with a new Audience.

Maybe, but bringing in younger on-air people, and talking about topics that appeal to young people might not work. That PT Cruiser car was supposed to be marketed to young people, but old people bought it. Then young people said: "I don't want a PT Cruiser because my grandfather bought one of those..." KGO might be a PT Cruiser stained with old blood. If they get an FM station thinks might change.

I heard "Bower" on the air as well. Is that the latest trend, Karel, Monty and Bower....I guess if it worked for Madonna and Cher??? So first name radio rules...

I get my news on the smart phone, the net, or on my GPS...so news radio? It will be interesting to see what happens. I'll wait 6 months to a year before drawing my conclusions. This is very interesting though. Of course they still have Ira Blue, ...I mean Ronn Owenns in the morning and he must be very very old.

Sounds like they're trying out someone new. I worked with this guy many moons ago. He is a good sports guy. He does good sports talk, and excellent play-by-play.

Back in the day, he was very full of himself. I suppose people can change...but usually don't.

He seemed OK on the sports.

One gaff was he mentioned in passing that: "Oakland is not a place for fine dining..." KGO is running an ad campaign by Oakland to get people eat there...."restaurant week."

While I do not think Oakland has the $200 to $500 a person gourmet restaurants that SF or Marin County might have, the do have good food places. Many people do not like the fancy places and want good quality and different food at a good affordable price. Oakland and Berkley can offer those choices.

I'm sure the ad dept. at KGO might have some concerns.

I don't know why Monty chimed in about Oakland dining??

I am not in the restaurant business BTW.

it was actually a much-talked-about topic this past week: the NY Times listed Oakland in the Top 5 of its "destination cities", specifically because of the downtown restaurant scene. So lots of discussion on lots of radio stations. The fact that he was willing to trash it despite KGO advertiser $$$ is a plus in my book.

Interesting, well people are talking about Oakland and food, so he might draw attention to it by trashing it. At least Monty did not spend a lot of time pushing nuke power and talking about "bung-hole idiots in the environmental movement" like Wattenburg.
