Monterey: KSBW to add ABC on subchannel

How has ABC been servibg ABC since KNTV dropped it? Isn't there a cable only channel with ABC in the area? Also with all the LPTVs in the area why didn't any of them pick it up?

Yes. KNTV kept creeping up the coast, angered KGO (there goes the ABC), became WB for two years, then became NBC 11 (at first "NBC 3").

The other answer is in the article: "Hearst is the largest ABC affiliate group". Group deals have been the norm in TV since the 1994 New World deal. KSBW has quite a bit more leverage against ABC.

Hearst also owns "NBC" KCRA & "My Network TV" KQCA in Sacramento.

Hearst is also a comparatively large NBC owner. They only have two CBS affiliates in their portfolio, and those were some of their most recent acquisitions.

It also should be noted that Hearst owns 20% of ESPN (and ESPN "generously" lets WCVB use "SportsCenter 5" for its sports branding). A&E's parent company is a Hearst/ABC/NBC joint venture.

My question is, Will KSBW 8.2 be 480i substation with the 16:9 full screen, or go full 720p or1080i HD. In Bakersfield the FOX affiliate KBFX is on KBAK 29 substation 58.2 and is using 480i with the wide screen format.

So what syndicated programs will show on KSBW-DT 8.2. 9-10a? 11a-12n? 3-5? 7-8?

If it follows the usual pattern of "sister stations", you'll see a lot of the same syndicated programs that are already on KSBW, only in different schedule pattern.
